All the crazy managing mess of the past few weeks is one thing, but this is even more ridiculous. NOT the best way to show that you are willing to be the best possible manager.
I believe the rule managers are using is that the tournament will be cancelled if there are less than 5 players committing. I've once suggested that we could set a time limit which is 12 hrs before MD starts due to a confusion happened earlier this year when it comes to cancelling a tournament, and kondrashov agreed. Guangzhou had 6 so it's not cancelled. Seoul should have been cancelled, but for obvious reasons it wasn't

I'm lazy to check but I'm pretty sure there were quite a lot tournaments that had less than 12 participants. 12 is a just high bar considering the amount of active players the game currently has.

The ranking system is indeed pretty inclined towards those who could actually rank really high in the tournament. I knew that when it's been implemented last year and it's one of the tactics I sometimes still use. Play the less competitive ones, and sometimes playing MMs will probably be 'safer' and more rewardable than a Premier.

Another thing is that I think people just have to vote on those commitment threads. Less people are actually voting those now and it's hard for the managers to guess whether there will be enough players to go on, especially if we increase the bar from 5 to like 8 or 10. For example, during the week of Bastad & Nanchang, one got 7 and the other got 6 votes. Turned out Bastad had 20 players and Nanchang had 10. It's sometimes just unpredictable. We also have examples like Bucharest was cancelled and that 28 of us were all competing for 280 points in Gstaad. It's pretty unnecessary but apparently there were less than 5 commitments for Bucharest.

Indeed, PAW is getting messy and messier lately

@CharlDa although it is unfair for most of us, I think it is too late to change, it should have prevented before hand unfortunately

There is no rule that players got 0 points when event was played and there was less than 12 players.

PAW board what do you think about this case? We need strong board because now is a mess and this game will die very fastly.

Clearly, PAW tournaments with 10 and 4 players should never have taken place and should have been cancelled/merged but since they did take place then in my opinion the ranking points should be awarded.

As a board member I apologise for not being able to dedicate any time to the game recently.

Hi jrm,
There is actually a new rule from this year, stating that you are not obliged to ask for a WC.
You can see the last sentence in the first post here:
Quote:
If a player posts PAW picks without a commitment or a WC request, then the PAW Manager shall automatically allocate a Wildcard to any ‘non-committed’ player who post picks onto the tournament thread. (providing that a player is eligible to receive a Wildcard).
Thanks a lot for helping us with managing Birmingham

From the PAW Rules in post #1 of this thread:-

> You cannot post two PAW picks for the same match. i.e. PAW10 Safina over Kuznetsova, PAW11 Kuznetsova over Safina. In this case, both picks will be declared invalid and may be replaced.

Is this way of picking valid?
Code:
PAW10: Hampton over Radwanska
If the manager uses Evita's Templates, it deletes a symbol ":".
Code:
PAW10: Hampton over A.Radwanska
Here the manager deletes ":" and "A.".
For simplification of work of the manager write so:
Code:
PAW10 Hampton over Radwanska
Two picks on one match (PAW11 and PAW12) are invalid.

PAW is a game very close to the real WTA tour and this is the reason for having the commitments! Otherwise we can just sign in the tournaments' threads with the message "in", as in other games here.
Nevertheless there are tournaments in which in general there is no registration, even messages 'in'. Registration considers PAW01.
PAW it is pleasant for players? PAW tries to reduce number of players. Some people addressed to me with a question about PAW. When they learned, that two months it is necessary to be engaged in a spam or flud, their interest vanished...
