2000 makes sense because Venus literally missed the first half of the season. She didn't play until like the French right?

2001 is unique but Martina had a tight grip on that ranking. I don't think Jennifer touched the #1 ranking until 2002 either if I believe.

Serena has 17 years in total in the top 20. Not bad not bad at all. The record is probably held by martina i'd say.

Lindsay did clean up in fall indoor season from memory where she won Zurich, Filderstadt and Linz and reached Final of YEC if I recall correctly..... back then was more quantity over quality.

Re: Top 20 Weeks Count

What CRAZY is that Lindsay (who didn't reach a SINGLE major final in 2001) was Y.E. #1 in a year where Venus and that other girl each won 2 majors. And they both reached other SFs. The other girl reached the semis or better in all 4 majors.

ETA: I just looked at the Y.E. Rankings and Venus played 5 fewer events than the 2 women who finished the year ranked ahead of her.

(Serena played the fewest of anyone in the Top 70 )

Poor Venus, a 7 time slam champion has 11 weeks ranked #1, of course much of that was due to she was overshadowed by Serena.

Thanks for updating this!

Caro and JJ (and to a lesser degree, Simona and Aga) have grand slam winning credentials based off rankings alone, but haven't been able to pull it together.

More weeks in top 3 than Ivanovic, Radwanska, Zvonareva, Kvitova.
There are stupid posts even now in 2015 after every defeat, hell, even after some of her wins

That means she's safe in top 5

Even if Simona loses early in Wimbledon, chances are she'll stay in the top 5. And then she has less to defend than any of the other top players the rest of the way. Last year she skipped Canada, made QF at Cincy, 3R at USO, 2R at Wuhan, and QF at Beijing. If she doesn't improve on those results, she'll be hiring yet another coach.

You can find the posts here: http://www.tennisforum.com/showthrea...ict+halep+2014
I see Simona top 3 after Wimbledon as well, since Kvitova has 2000 points to defend.
