I'm not sure if her practice in December was good/long enough. Maybe she feels like she needs to work more before the US Premier tournaments in March. Playing Budapest only means almost no travel, more time at local courts. I think it's a good decision.

I don't know if she can afford not to play, but Lucie has always been a hard-worker. The time off won't be wasted. Hope she's saving herself for the clay season.

Yes, so sad that Lucie and Rob Steckley split. I miss him

But as @HelloPliskie said Rob is a father, and understandably he wants to spend as much time as possible with his family. All the travelling on the WTA Tour as a coach and at the same time being a father and husband is very hard to combine

I agree, but he just wasn't present. He's not looking to travel now that he has a baby.

Lucie saved 9 (!) match points in her Aus Open R1 match ! Insane

I have no idea how Lucie was so close to a loss to Wickmayer. Must have played bad

R2 Lucie vs #2 seed Serena who leads Head To Head 9-0 !

Lucie defeated Wickmayer 3:6, 7:6 (9:7), 6:1 saving 9(!) match balls.

I only saw the 1st set against Strycova before going to bed, and the quality of tennis made me choke. However, the positive side is.....up until 6-3 *5-0 against Golubic, Lucie was sublime.

Close to 2015 form.

Lucie lost 5-7 6-3 6-7 in a very close match to #4 Strycova

But no reason to be sad IMO about this Auckland R2 loss
I am happy what I saw. Lucie played well. She is on the right way
Barbie has improved so much in last years. Happy for her

What a battle that match was ! It was a great match

Standing ovations from the crowd after the match ended
The crowd appreciated the great tennis and big fight from both

Also good serving from both: Lucie 7 Aces, 1 DF. Barbie 6 Aces, 2 DFs

Lucie was a little bit too passive/tentative in the tiebreak
Barbie deserved the win a bit more, she was more active at the end

But it was such a close match, nobody deserved to lose

Was a pretty comprehensive display. Allertova just didn't have enough to mount a serious challenge.
