Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

Stuttgart is rather unique this week because every single player in the MD has previously won at least one title and--though I've never seen any statistical listings for this--that must be a fairly rare occurrence(excluding what should be obvious exceptions, such as either of the YEC events, whether it's the more respected one or the B-level YEC for MM winners).I wonder when it last happened(?)

Though there are some previous title-winners even in Stuttgart qualies, I just checked out some of today's results, and we're guaranteed to have at least one qualifier who hasn't won a title yet. I also wonder if there has ever been an event in this modern era when every player in the MD, INCLUDING all qualifiers, has been a title-winner.

Konta serving for the match but Venus breaks to 15: 6-4, 5-5.
Venus broken next game to love!
Konta wins 6-4, 7-5 and will take on Caro in the final.

I just saw a Tennis Channel commercial for its upcoming coverage of Charleston and they say that they have first ball to last ball coverage. Why the heck don't they have that for Miami then? Miami is a lot bigger, more prestigious tournament than Charleston.

Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

Tennis Channel stopped airing live matches when Venus' match ended a few minutes ago despite there being two Wta matches still ongoing, one of them being the world #1 (Kerber)'s match. Instead, they're airing replays of today's earlier matches. They've been and are continuing to air Kerber's match on their pay streaming service though. It's ridiculous that they're pulling this crap. There's no reason to be airing taped coverage when there's still live matches.

Heh...there was actually a Tennis Channel commercial with Kerber thanking fans for watching her matches on Tennis Channel just after Tennis Channel stopped their live coverage for the day.

How about that! Tomljanovic - Vesnina is suspended at MP Tomljanovic (6-5, 30-40 in the decider)!

Aga is making it hard for herself against Bellis. She was down 0-2 in the decider, gets back to 2-2 only to lose another break.

Edit: And a double break! Bellis serving for the match at 5-2.

Edit2: And Bellis wins 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to face the winner of Caro-Bondarenko.

Kasatkina was up 4-2 in the decider with multiple BPs for a double break but Puig fought back and won 6-4 to face the winner of Caro-Davis.

The commercials were probably done a couple of months ago in the off season.

No defenders/retrievers/counterpunchers made the quarterfinals of the Australian Open this year. I'm wondering if it's due to the playing conditions.

Then again at last year's US Open, there were 3 such players in the quarterfinals: Caro, Simona, Kerber (Should Sevastova be counted as one as well).

I thought David Kotyza wanted to spend more time with his family instead of traveling to the tournaments Caro was playing at . Yet here he is at the Australian Open coaching Karo Pliskova.
