Did you see who just won the USO Women's Champions Doubles final? Clijsters and Navratilova! F**king Navratilova who turns 61 next month! A little reminder why she was my first tennis hero(ine). 👍

When pennetta won 2 years ago, Caroline had a similar h2h
Caroline has to make deep runs. She's made 2 slam semis in the last 24 majors, 6 years.
You cant win a title when you lose in round 2 to Makarova or Cetkovska

It does show Wozniacki, Halep Radwanska and Pliskova that winning a major is not some impossible goal. But it takes 7 wins

Venus lost to Sloane, which means we'll have a new slam winner. I am fine with either Maddie or Sloane, I really hope it's not Coco.

I can't help but feel disappointed for Caro (again). This is a glimpse of what the tour will look like when Serena retires, and Caro didn't take advantage of the situation this year. Sure she had a tough draw but it's not impossible.

Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

What changed this major is a whole group of US women had good results. They are going to be on the big courts. USTA wants them to have crowd support and get comfortable on the big courts. And the men always get good courts
So Caroline will have to get used to court 5 or 17. Unless she comes in as #1, she's not seeing Ashe with young US women having decent rankings
I think this was a terrible major for Caroline in many ways. Pretty much wrote her story at majors last week
She wont be treated as a star when winning a major is now considered what being a Champion means in tennis

Caro has a combined 10-2 H2H against the Keys, Vandeweghe and Stephens, maybe if she landed in a different section things will turn out differently (although we know now that H2H means nothing to Caro)
She lost 1-6 in set 3 to Makarova! There is no section soft enough!
Coco & Venus were in both 2017 hard court slam semis. Caroline lost in round 3 and round 2
She is regressing at hardcourt majors. Its where the pressure is. She handles the delays in Doha, Dubai and Eastbourne. At a major, it wipes her out
Any excuse at a major wipes her out.
Coco beat Caro at Wimbledon, she's having a much better slam year than Caroline, even if she loses this semi

It looks like Kvitova will be a contender in Melbourne. Very impressive tournament after a wonky summer
It was good to watch the last 2 slam winners play and see that intensity. The true champions have a different attitude from the other players. Petra really wanted that match, every point, and thats why she is a multiple slam winner

Venus into SF! What a match!

Caro's no.6 on both the live ranking and the race to Singapore now.

What's up with all this 3rd set choking to American players? With Kvitova's choke it's now 3 in the past 2 days.

Svitolina was up 4-2 in set 3. You have to close, just like in Fed Cup.
There is a mental softness in a lot of these high ranked slamless players.
These are the matches that are the most important. You have to focus and fight, not get distracted or nervous
You are not going to get center court at 2 PM with the crowd behind you every slam match. You have to lock in mentally no matter what the situation
I can easily see Svitolina retiring as another slamless #1. She has a lot of the same mentality as Wozniacki and Jankovic

Caro needs to learn how to peak at slams
Not only learn to peak at slams, she has to be able to stay focused if she has to wait around. You cant play a bad match because you dont like what court you're on.
And in paris, she almost quit on the Bellis match when she thought it was getting dark. If it didnt rain she would have probably fell behind in set 3 those 30 minutes.
I think Caroline is one of the big losers this major. Its so wide open, and she goes out because she had to wait around and play on an outside court
You cant throw away a year at your best major.

Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

Halep had terrible luck drawing Sharapova round 1. Maria was terrible every other round
Kuznetsova was awful. So was Konta and Wozniacki.
Muguruza, Pliskova, Svitolina, Venus are the YEC players left
