Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Update on Shahar's condition in the Jerusalem Post:

Championships begin in Ra'anana next Sunday, female star still recovering from injuries.

For the first time since turning professional, Shahar Pe’er is expected to miss next week’s Israel national championships as she continues her recovery from a foot injury.

Pe’er’s 2013 season was cut short in September, when she was diagnosed with a partial tear of her foot’s plantar fascia. However, she is still set to end the year at No. 76 in the world rankings after plummeting all the way down to No. 179 in late June.

The 26-year-old won her sixth national title in the past seven years and eighth overall with a win over Julia Glushko last December.

But she is unlikely to be defending her title and appears set to skip the upcoming championships – which begin in Ra’anana next Sunday – in order to continue her recovery at the Sanchez Casal Academy in Barcelona.

Pe’er will be escorted on the WTA Tour in 2014 by Spaniard Eduardo Nicolas from the Sanchez Casal Academy and is set to begin her season at the Shenzhen Open in China on December 29.

The Australian Open will get underway in Melbourne on January 14.

I think this is definitely serious...she was playing well in Ningbo, and it seems strange to just withdraw if it wasn't real.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Peer is injured again and had to withdraw in Ningbo.

From her Facebook page:

Over the course of the first round match at the Ningbo tournament, shahar felt sudden pain on the bottom of her foot.
The following day, she took an MRI in which it was discovered that she had a partial tear of her Plantar Fasciitis.
As a result of the tear, shahar decided, based on advice from several doctors, to retire from the rest of the tournament.
The decision about her care, as well as future tournaments and the rest of the season, will be made in the upcoming few days with her doctors

Pervak lost 6 of her last 8 matches.

If Shachar can't beat her, she had better not play in USO.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Pervak hasn't done well since she came back a few weeks ago though. So Shahar should get through.

The rest of the draw doesn't look bad though.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Don't forget Pervak beat Shahar at Wimbledon 2 years ago, and she has a pretty solid game too.
