Re: Blast Encyclopedia of Female Tennis Players

Update

Achenbach, Alice Melanie
Germany
Born 31 August 1888
Died

Married Carl Walther Bruns on 17 December 1909 in Hamburg

Active circa 1905-14. Popularly known as Melanie. This player's maiden name appears to have been Achenbach, not Aschenbach. She is sometimes listed as Frau Dr Bruns, indicating that she possessed a doctorate of some sort.

MORGAN , A LAURA and MORGAN, MERIEL E

www.tennisforum.com/25493154-post1341.html
and
www.tennisforum.com/72821362-post4129.html

Were they related?

This is possible as in Cooper's 1961 annual in the ranking lists page 250 A.L. Morgan came from Wales. M.E.Morgan is also listed but does not give which county she represented.
A.L Morgan was active in the 1940's and 1950's and was a regular finalist in the Dinas Powis (Glamorgan) tournament and also the Llanelly (Carmarthenshire) tournament.

Cannot find any results for M.E.Morgan but she could be the person born in Llanelly in 1921.

DUBLE, THERESE (nee Therese Lansdowne)
United States
Born 31 October 1888
Died 27 February 1989 in Sarasota, Florida
Married Edward C Duble by 1920
[Active 1920-1926]

Active in tennis as early as 1920, when she is found organzing and entering an event at the West Side Tennis Club. She was in the US Doubles events at Forest Hills in 1925 and 1926.

Therese was an acquaintance of the diarist Anais Nin. The couple lived in Forest Hills, New York. From volume 3 of her diary, page 47, "Again there there is Mrs Duble, who works like her husband. They have a maid and no children. They go to Europe every summer. They have a car and many friends. "

They were still in Forest Hills in 1930. Therese later lived in Connecticut (where she and Edward reside in Greenwich in 1940) and Florida.

Separating these two despite their age difference might be a major heedache.
