Laura's draw in Rome

(5)McHale v Robson
Broady v (11)Zheng

Potential clash of the Brits in round 2, although most likely they will both lose their first match. But, this draw has potential.

She played much better against Azarenka than her other recent matches which is encouraging. If only she could keep the ball in play.

After the FO she will still have one SR to use. She hasn't used it to enter Nottingham though so I assume she is saving it for Birmingham (or possibly Mallorca, which seems like Laura's kind of tournament ).

Yep, the Goldilocks draw basically.

Laura hit some beautiful shots though  and even hit a couple of aces towards the end. I think it would help if she could get a few more first nerves in play. I know everyone says that, but looking at the stats, I think that was the main down full for Laura, along with the poor movement.

Now she just needs to start playing like that against everybody else and she will be back.
Exactly. If she can continue to play like this she will soon be back in WTA tournaments as of right. As others have said though she tends to bring her best game to the big matches so once her SRs run out she needs to remain motivated to get her ranking up so that she doesn't have to play the ITFs any more. Clearly she still has the game, it's largely psychological and lack of match play.

Just the Madrid court conditions helped her alot in this match, slices and drop shots just sits up. Too bad this court can't be everywhere.

Her break point conversion was also very bad, but I think that's just a sign of lack of match fitness.
