Re: Fed Cup Romania

Yes but on clay and in her own backyard Halep should seriously expose Konta Even Begu should be favorite against Konta, judging by the clay results in the last 1-2 years.

It's ridiculous to think that Tecsor who probably has a hard time getting her kid to eat all the veggies would be able to make Halep play if she didn't feel like it. Also Halep was fine last year in Fed Cup... nothing wrong with losing to Kerber & Pliskova.

Simona in better form. But still she lost to Konta in Miami

The tie vs GB will be very tough. The Romanian girls must show their best tennis

I really hope they win and stay in World Group 2

On another note the flow of events has to be mentioned.
Simona split with physical trainer Teo Cercel in June.
In autumn the Fed Cup captain Alina Cercel-Tecsor was replaced by Nastase at Simona’s proposition.
She said herself that it was her idea.
A connection between the 2 events or just a coincidence is everyone’s right to think about.
Well, if Tecsor asked Simo to play against Kerber last year and Simo was p***ed about that, I'd say she has a (fair amount of) right to asked she's replaced. Whether it was a good or bad thing and how much right she should have had on that, it's another topic.

I always thought good of Tecsor, but I wasn't very happy when Simo was asked to play against Czechia... and I was quite upset that she was asked to play against Kerber while injured & exhausted. In such cases the coach should know even better than the player what's best for them.

I don't think it's a coincidence... but also I don't think it's uncommon for star players to basically command things at Fed Cup or Davis Cup. She also wanted to play in Constanta => she got it (Targoviste and Slatina will have to wait ). It's all fine with me... what matters is that the team wins against Gb and hopefully next year we can get back to WG1

Re: Fed Cup Romania

As I understand it, the venue is set for Mamaia pending the approval from ITF

In all these years they never seemed interested to me in making as much money as possible for the Federation. Especially Cosac who seems to have political aspirations lately, rather than caring about what profits the Federation makes

You guys should come, Mamaia is also like a posh seaside resort. You can go to the beach (it will probably be cloudy, windy and it might rain), you can go swimming (the water will be ice cold) or just enjoy the nightlife (most of the places will be closed since it's out of season)... lot's of fun

Ye. The travel costs if will be Mamaia will be more expensive for you. Even though it's a very nice coquettish town with opening to Black Sea.

Bucharest will be cheap for you. Maybe somewhere around 500-600 euro on 2-3 days with airplane cost, accomodation and match tickets too.

Not very strong arguments tbh. It's a difference between Davis Cup when they didn't even sell all the tickets and Fed Cup.

IMO, they will try to milk as many money as possible from the tickets. It's Great Britain, with Konta & co. after all and they kinda advised Halep to state that she'll come already.

If it were Taiwan for example, it would have been plausible. With GBR, not so much. Just my 2 cents .

The federation is doing everything they can to have her on the team. In what looks like a pretty desperate attempt to force Halep into playing this time, they moved the tie to Halep's hometown of Constanta. The venue is actually really, really nice there... but has only like ~1.500 seats
