Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

She never entered Montreal or Florianapolis/Nanchang, so she wanted to take some longer break anyway but obviously unlucky that she also can´t play Bastad now.
She often has problems with her shoulder, so hopefully it won´t get worse.
I guess she plans to play Cinci Q and then New Haven Q before the US Open, not the ideal preparation for her but she is used to such situations unfortunately, good thing is that she will have to play Q in this case, so she can hope for some "easier" opponents, it´s obviously important to get as many matches as possible once she is fit again.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Anna-Lena has a shoulder injury and can't play until Cincinatti, she can't play the premier in Montreal (where she was qualified ?)
and Cincinatti has a 48er field, so the next tournament is probably Us Open, so she misses more torunaments than last year with this severe ankle injury.
And in these extremly weak tournaments in Gstaad, Bukarest and Bastad and Stanford and Washington she was seeded if there were no
shoulder problems and she could enter.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Frustrating loss and Anna-Lena had the best serve of the tournament with Pliskova (6 aces 1st set).
There were so many terrible matches in Wimbledon with players unable to hit 10 winners the whole match, Bertens had 9 winners at 6:3 5:4, Begu 6 winners, Withöft 9 winners, Vögele 8 winners, Cirstea 9 winners, ... in an entire match, Makarova had 9 winners when Anna-Lena had 31 winners, Lisicki has 3 winners at 4:3 when Anna-Lena had 16 winners ...,
Goerges against Puig was very similar, Goerges hit over 60 aces in 3 sets, Anna-Lena played so strong 1st set as Goerges in Paris, a shame they both lost with such a performance.
When going for a winner she rarely misses a shot, hit winners even close to the lines. But ...
After the rain delay she again missed a 100% FH at a very short 2nd serve at a crucial point and those poor return games...
Probably her career best was 5 breaks against Golubic (2 sets) and then she managed to lose her serve 8 times.

Lisicki had 11 winners and Svedova 16 winners entire match, these stats only available at the slams tell precisely how the quality of a match was.
Overall this match Friedsam - Doi was high quality match from both, one of the best matches definitely.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Really unnecessary loss to Doi, Anna-Lena

A bad performance. Too passive, wasting BPs and stupid UEs

It was such a winnable match, but Anna-Lena wasted her chances and made many UEs

Anna-Lena lacks consistency. Too many bad play in matches or whole bad matches

Break Points Won: only 1 of 8 !

UEs: Anna-Lena 26, Doi 15

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

lost 67(1) 36
well, not much to add to what have been said already, a good tournament for ALF but she is wasting too many chances in general, mentally weak on the big points, a known problem and it gets worse in important matches and you just have to take your chances in matches like today against Doi.
Her season is much better than 2014/2015, more consistent but still room to improve, especially mentally but also movement/fitness, hope she can take the positive out of the matches on grass and that defeat today won´t influence her in a negative way but we´ll see how her season continues.
Late summer/fall is usually the best part of the season for her, so we can hope, 1st serve was really effective on grass and it should be effective on hard court soon also but it´s tough to predict anything when it comes to ALF...her head is often her biggest problem unfortunately!

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

What a bitter loss, Anna-Lena totally dominating against a small poor server, hitting 21 winners in 1 set, hitting stunning winners all over the place,
powerful FH and BH winners with the 1st or 2nd ball, how can she lose that ? Since this bandage on her right foot, she is incrdible slow, her return game is weak even against poor servers, her blocked return is terrible.
Anna-Lena had 3 to love serve games 1st set, but with a 3:1 lead loses her serve.
At 5:4 she had 5 set points. One of them was a very short 2nd serve and she pushed that ball 1 meter out with her FH without going for a winner or trying to hit a long ball or going for an approach shot. Always the same and after this she loses that game and the set.
At 1 point 1st set she had 13 winners / 5 UE and Doi hat 5 Winners / 4 UE, normally a player cannot lose such a match.
Match is at 7:6 3:2 raining, Anna-Lena gave that great opportunity away to reach at least QF at Wimbledon, she hat all the chances at 5:4.

Into the third round here for the first time

To get to the R16, she'll need to overcome Misaki, who she's 0-2 against. This is their first meeting on grass.

Gluck to ALF!

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Good and important that she was able to take that great chance here and reach 3rd round!
Lost her first service game but after that no further breaks for Alexandrova till 64 53, then she got broken but seems like the Russian played a good return game there as well, but ALF should have taken one of the 5 Mps afterwards, wasted many of those with UE according to the scoreboard but important that she did not lose the focus completely, easy TB in the end!

Doi next, not Pliskova, a dangerous player on grass, Doi can play great tennis but is not really consistent but once she got into a good rhythm it is tough to stop her, IMO ALF is the underdog in that match but it´s still a close match obviously, hope the result will be closer than in the San Antonio final, we´ll see, good luck!
