Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

I was proud of how Steffi fought back from 1-4 down in the second set to lead 6-5.

I just wish she could add a proper smash to her arsenal. It would really help.

Steffi's just having one of those days.

(She looks beautiful in that tennis dress, though. There, I said it.)

Embedded. She likes some leather jackets, don't you think?

Looked through her set for the first time and this is my favorite.

Rest Day for our Steffi.

No strapped thigh this week, you'll notice, but I'm sure she'll really appreciate the day off.

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

6-3 7-6 over Hesse-Darmstadt.

Tight to 3-all, then Steffi broke twice to race away with the first set.

Then something happened in the first game of the second set. Don't know what it was (no audio on my stream), but it was evidently upsetting and allowed Hesse back into the match.

Second set looked gone a couple of times, but Steffi has nerves of steel when she's on. Levelled at 6-all and was just too steady in the tiebreak.

Disputed line call on MP and Hesse didn't want to go to the net to shake hands! Eventually did, of course.

Good win to put in the bag. Next up, the rematch against Magda Linette, who just easily disposed of Krunic.

Fingers crossed.

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

It was actually 6-4 6-0.

Dropped serve in the third game, broke back in the sixth, tight until 4-all. Stef worked the girl out and stepped on the pedal, winning the next 8 games straight.

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

Our Steffi is 5th seed.

The draw:

A couple of unknown-quantity young players in the first couple of rounds, then a very stern test against either Magda Linette (whose last win came against Stef), or Krunic, who is having a very good year indeed, and it takes a very good player to beat her.

So Steffi, there's your job. You're awesome and I believe in you.

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

Step by step return to old strength
04/27/16 Tennis Aargau
Despite an injury and a very short preparation, in Istanbul Stefanie Voegele scored her best result this season. For her first final at a WTA tournament, however, she still has to wait.

The number eight has brought no luck to Stefanie Voegele. At her eighth semi-final at WTA level last week in Istanbul, the 26-year-old from Aargau was forced to leave the place as loser and continues to wait for her Final breakthrough. It was as if the door to the final - at least on paper – was never so far open as in the Turkish capital: Her opponent, the local Cagla Buyukakcay was classified in ranking as number 118 in the world, still behind Vögele. “Of course I was disappointed that I did not reach the final again. Above all, I was not happy with my game. I lacked freshness and I was still a bit tired from the previous matches”, said Voegele.
That she was inhibited by the thought of her first Final or of the seven semifinals already lost, Vögele does not believe, however. "Of course I know that I've never won a semi-final at the WTA level. But it would be wasted energy to think that during the match. It is certainly not easy, this is simply hide, but in the semi-final in Istanbul that definitely was not the problem. In addition, I must say that my opponent has played really well."

Injury prevented Fed Cup participation
That Stefanie Voegele advanced at all to the last four in the Turkish capital, was unexpected. Even in the week before the tournament she was plagued by a groin injury she had suffered in her first round match in Katowice, Poland. “I was in great pain and could only start training again on the Thursday before the tournament in Istanbul”, said Voegele. This injury was also the reason why the 26-year-old had to cancel her participation in the Fed Cup semi-final match against the Czech Republic in place of the also injured Belinda Bencic of Leuggern. “The treatment was underway. It would have made no sense for the team to push with this injury”, Vögele is convinced.
A decision that has paid off. Despite the approximately one-week injury lay-off and consequent very short preparation time on her first clay tournament of the season in Istanbul Stefanie Vögele was able to record her best result this year with the semi-final foray. A sign that she is on the way to a final after an extremely difficult last season. “I am playing better, but above all I am going much, much better, personally” said Voegele. “I still need time to finally process the very hard period of life after the death of my father, but I now have enough energy again to fully focus on my tennis.

Going through the qualification
To return to the Top 100, not much is missing. In the current world rankings Stefanie Voegele is already back up to 105th position, A placement that would have been enough for direct qualification for the main draw of the French Open, but unfortunately the deadline was already the week before! Vögele will therefore have to take a detour through the qualification rounds at Bois de Boulogne. But after the many obstacles and setbacks in recent months, this little detour for Stefanie Voegele will not deter her from her continued step by step to fight back.
