Re: Aliaksandra Sasnovich

She needs a week off anyways.
Her win over Karo was awesome.. a top ten scalp !
Losing to Osaka is no shame.. this girl will be Top Ten.
I think Sasha might've just ran out of gas.
Take a week, try quallies in Beijing.

Re: Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Sasha lost to Osaka 3-6 6-7(6)

The sad part is that she blew a 5-0 lead in the second set

A rather disappointing end to a great week. But she managed to defend most of her points, and won 5 matches in a row for the first time since Seoul last year. I hope she can build on that.

She's out of Wuhan qualifying because of her run in Tokyo.

Re: Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Sasha def. Pliskova 6-4 6-2

Pliskova was far from her best, but a still a thoroughly deserved win for Sasha
She served smartly, returned well and played some beautiful counter-punching & offensive tennis (showing some nice variety).

5 wins in a row in Tokyo now

This was Sasha's first-ever win against a top-10 player, as she pointed out in her post-match interview:

Quote:
"I was expecting now to be going to Wuhan for the next tournament because I know Karolina is a really good player and I didn't expect to win today," Sasnovich said. "But you know it's life and it's tennis, the ball is round!

"I have a lot of emotion. It was my first win over a Top 10 player, I'm really happy with it and looking forward to the next round."
Really happy for her, especially after the kind of season she's had

Very nice win ! Wickmayer is a pretty good player.
Next up-- Ka Pliskova. Not impossible, but..

Sasha d. Wickmayer 3-6 6-3 6-3
Nice comeback win

The match should have been streamed but was moved to an indoor court because of rain...

Re: Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Sasha is indeed playing the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and has qualified for the main draw with three straight-set wins

QR1: Sasha d. Dabrowski 6-3 6-1
QR2: Sasha d. Ar. Rodionova 6-2 6-3
QR3: Sasha d. Kato 6-1 6-4

Maybe not the strongest opposition, but still it's nice to see this kind of scoreline, especially with the added pressure of having to defend last year's points.

She'll face Wickmayer next, with a potential meeting with (3)Pliskova () in R2

Good luck Sasha

I was at the Fed Cup tie too, (discreetly) cheering for the Belarus team. Sasha played well, especially on the second day. She really carried the team throughout the weekend.

The Moscow qualies list isn't available yet, but I'd be really surprised if Sasha's name is not on it. Elina is supposed to be in Moscow too. Hope you have fun at the Kremlin Cup!

I've spent a large part of the week at the Coupe Banque Nationale here in QC. Same venue as Fed Cup in February, but different surface (carpet). The courts are very quick and IMO would suit Sasha's game. I'd love to see her play in Québec again

A much-needed win, and a nice way to put an end to her five-match losing streak.

After the match, Doi told the Japanese press that "there were no free points with my service game, all the games were tight even with those that I managed to hold and I could never get that conviction when I served." (source)

Unfortunately, Sasha couldn't keep it up in the next match and lost pretty badly to Riske. The scoreline (3-6 1-6) was almost identical to their previous meeting in Dubai earlier this year (3-6 2-6), also on hard.

You are correct, she hasn't made any R3 this year. It's been a really disappointing season so far. And almost 200 ranking points coming off after next week. Speaking of which, I don't see her name on the Seoul list - looks like she's playing Tokyo PPO qualies instead?

I've been to the Rogers Cup every year since 2004 (and a few times before that)

I used to go see both men and women when the tournaments were held on consecutive weeks (until about 2010/2011), but when they were moved to the same week I had to pick a "side", and I chose the women (I follow the WTA more closely). So I go to Montreal on even years and to Toronto on odd years.

Welcome back!
It was getting kinda lonely in here, especially since Potapovushina went MIA a few weeks ago.

I don't know what's going on with your account - sometimes your flag, rep button and post count disappear and I can't click on your user name, but right now everything looks normal. Maybe you should contact a mod/admin to explain your issue? It might be a glitch in their database...

Watched a bit and it looked like Davis was winning easy then a few games later she would make a comeback

Re: Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Lost to Davis 2-6 6-4 5-7

She was trailing 0-3 in the second set and 2-5 in the third.

She had a game point for 6-5 in the decider, but hit 3 DFs in a row from *Ad-40 to get broken for the 10th time. Then she made a couple of really cheap ROS errors in the final game.

She fought her heart out to get back into the match, only to completely throw it away in the last two games.

What a depressing way to lose
