I don't know it was nerves or something physically. It's like after the first set every time, her strength is like zapped. Her serve speeds drops and her shots seems to lose power. I just hope for the best, she really needs someone ' she likes' with her that can give her good advice moving forward.

Disappointing, but at least she won a set.

Stop. Hantuchova was one of the better first rounds she could have gotten. Fair enough she's given Laura trouble in the past but Daniela's game is in an awful place.

Memories Nightmares from 7 years ago came flooding back

I mean, it's disappointing that she was a set and a break up yet lost 11 of the next 13 games but in all honesty I never expected her to win more than 4 games anyway so

It doesn't look likely I'm afraid. But luckily there's no rain predicted for today, but there is for the rest of the week.

Laura you have nothing to lose, Dani is in the worst form of her life and simply can't move or defend much anymore. Get that serve down the T alot and pounce on the short balls. The game plan is move her before she moves you.

This time I really expect 5 games in a set , you have too

You might have been looking at the Eastbourne WTA event rather than the $50,000 event. It is a bit confusing.

Not as confusing as when you're looking at Nottingham as I was.

Anyway, this match is difficult to predict based on past outcomes. Dani is a shadow of her former self, ranked 170 compared to 33 in 2013 and winning few matches, although she did qualify for RG. On the other hand, Laura is also not the player she was in 2013 but at least she has the chance of improving whereas Dani, at 33, is far less likely to do so. I'm bracing myself for a loss of course but I'm more optimistic about Laura's chances than some.

I know Dani not in her best form right now..but still horrible horrible match up for Laura..lol.
Laura's 0-3 H-H against Daniela is plain weird. When they first played in the opening round of Wimbledon 2009 - coincidentally the first ever match on the new Court 2 - Laura was blowing her off the court for a set-and-a-half. Dani couldn't handle her power at all despite the fact that Laura was just 15 years old and hadn't played a tennis match for about three months partly due to injury and partly because she was taking her GCSE exams!

Of course, Laura tightened up as the chance of a straight sets win beckoned and her game fell away. Still, the comments from coaches and analysts afterwards were pretty remarkable: "The power in Robson's serve was something to behold" (Oliver Brown - The Independent); "She has a good serve that will become magnificent" (Nick Bollettieri).

The sad thing is that Laura has never realised her serving potential. Her serve never became magnificent. Once LTA coaches began fiddling around with her motion in 2011/12, presumably to cut out the double-faults, her serve lost rhythm and pace. Nor did sacrificing pace help reduce the double-fault count: it made the problem worse. She became prone to "double-faultitis". Her coaches should have worked on developing a solid spin second serve to back up her booming 1st serve rather than rebuilding her action completely. It was tragic. If something ain't broke you don't need to fix it - certainly not in that drastic fashion.

You could see the consequences in her two further matches against Dani in 2013. Laura was now a grown-up 19 year old and should have been the favourite. Yet both times she lost badly. I never saw the Doha match but I heard that Laura was suffering from bronchitis. But she also made no impact with her serve, and was broken half-a-dozen times. Their grass rematch at Birmingham was a big disappointment to watch. Laura looked slow, nervous, and devoid of confidence. She started as she meant to continue: double-faulting her opening service game away - in total contrast to the way she played at Wimby four years before.

I'd love to see Laura turn things around tomorrow, and come out pumped up and playing fearlessly. It may be a bad draw for her but it's an opportunity too. Daniela did recently qualify for Roland Garros but otherwise she's having a terrible season and her ranking has dropped precipitously. If Laura's gonna come back this grass court season this is as good a moment as any to make it happen.
