Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

I actually think she'll do better v Vika than she did against Babos.

Losing to Vika is certainly a lot better than losing to someone like Tsurenko or Gasparyan.

True. Another plus is the match should be streamed, I would think...

Oh ffs! I was hoping Laura could at least get a first round win here as that would take her into the top 300. Clay is not Vika's best surface but still I don't see much of a chance for a win here. I guess the luck with the draws was bound to run out eventually.

Still...10 free points, woohoo!

I will not read too much into on court coaching , most players barely listen...

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

The problem is she seems to think she can some straight back after the best part of 2 years out and pick up at the same level she was at before she was injured. She can't and the continuous defeats won't be doing anything for her confidence. She needs to learn to compete again and the best way to do that is to listen to her coach and to play against players who are at her current level. If she builds it up I'm sure the ability is still there but she needs to recognise she's going to have to work for it. The ITF circuit on hardcourt in the far east is where she should be at the moment.

Laura was just frustrated of herself that's she sounded petulant on half-time coaching... I really hope she hire a mental coach because coming back from long time injury lay off is very difficult specially she missed the most important part of her career.

no-hay-igual I agree with the last two posts.

Watched the whole thing and it was fairly difficult. Laura was actually playing better than Timea at 1-0 down and then as soon as Timea hit two outrageous drop shots and then Laura relaxed too much at 40-0 up in the next game, the fight was over.

Her and Hadad almost had an argument on court, her movement is the worst it's probably ever been and she can't even do her bread and butter shots anymore where she would relish the opportunity to put away a short ball. Not to mention her serve is largely non-effective now but I think that's more to do with her trying to be more consistent with it.

Hopefully this was just a bad day because Indian Wells and Miami were much better. Clay just isn't her surface and never has been no matter how many times we dig up Palermo and the win against Aga. Still if she can get back to top 250 after her PR runs out I'll be relatively happy.

Mr.Sparkle She did seem quite petulant towards Hadad during the coaching talk. It seemed like she was expecting that her coaches tip of hitting to Babos' forehand was some magic formula that would win her the match. I do hope Laura sticks with Hadad though but she really needs to listen to him more lol.

Hopefully things will go better in Madrid. I hope her first match is against someone who never hits drop shots... Lol

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

I think she's perfectly healthy, it's just her game.

Someone need to sit her down and ask what does she wants for her future. She's not listening to her coach and not willing to fight. You can't win matches on this level by playing 3 shots and not willing to rally or move your feet.

I don't know what does she wants for herself atm, is it just money or playing because she has no other alternatives and doesn't actually enjoy playing tennis.

I didn't expect her to win today, but I expect atleast a fight.

One thing that hasn't change for 3 years, she still can't do anything on the drop shots, Aga there won all points on dropshots. Really need improvements, can't stay like this forever.

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

Well done Laura.

You still have to go and get the win no matter how easy the match. 30 WTA ranking points are very valuable and she is back to 339 in the world. Not bad for not particuarly doing much this year. Last two weeks have really helped her. I always think it was a shame that she has had to use her PR on clay but if she can strive to get her ranking in the top 250 after her PR runs out I would say she has done fairly well. She won't be far off directly qualifying for qualifying rounds at grand slams and will be able to be MD for most 25K's and even some weak 50K's which will be more beneficial on her inevitable ITF comeback after Wimbledon.

Just hope she remains healthy because she can get back to her level she just needs more and more wins

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

I am not expecting a win against Babos, she's like another Dodin. But I hope it's a fight somewhat atleast.

Mr.Sparkle Double breadstick. Not as good as a double bagel but oh well into the top 400 now!

Have no expectations against Babos though. Laura should just try to put as little pressure on herself as possible and see what happens...
