Although technically there is another trouble. WTA rules allow 1 WC for the YEC finals, means only top7 is direct entry. Of course WTA never used the WC, so every time just the 8th player gets direct entry. But this year is wacky, and 2 slam champion on the brink of missing Finals WTA might make a choice. So imagine if Penko stays 8th in race and Sloane also doesn't qualifies (big chance she won't do much this year)... oh boy.
What would be important is getting into top7. The only one in close distance is Konta, Woz already in 700pts away from Penko seems too far. Of course this is only a problem if everybody in top7 plays.
By what I know it is really probable that Venus won't go anyway. But can't say for sure. However I really don't believe and don't want to believe that the WTA would take out the spot from Aljona to give it to Sloane. Similar situations happened and the WTA never used this WC. Besides that, prioritizing an American player like that would totally send the wrong message.

There's a little chance the current top 8 of the Race will undergo changes. Stephens must win Wuhan or Beijing, but she's in media's limelights atm and skipped her 1st Asian event, thus, she's likely to prepare for Zhuhai. Kuznetsova's the highest possibilities on paper to give it a try. I'm prettey sure Sveta won't do that, she did it last season to Konta, but I don't see her doing it to Alena, nah, it was her in Paris who should have passed La Borz, Kuzzy tanked the 4R match for Alena's sake to give Baby Lena best matchup possible, she ain't doing no harm to her like she did to a slamless anybody. Last but not least, Kuzzy's too old to peak at will and she needs a lot of peaking this fall, not just to sneak another home event in Moscow. Who else? CoCo is a FedCup finalist, her reasoning is quite obvious, she's getting into form for Minsk, imo. Kiki is a mess these days and suffered from back injury lately, no matter how hard her haters try to expose her, she did well in the beginning of the season, but now she's done for the rest of it. So it must be only Cibulkova who's in contetion and whose WTF's points, if I'm not mistaken, won't drop before Singapore and nevertheless she's only 1703 points in the Race, plus 1250 she has for the WTF 2016, it's totalling to 2953 (Penko has +540) at the start of the 38th week. That's why Alena has to enter the same last events of the regular season Domi's scheduling, mkay. It doesn't look like Cibulkova's chances are real, anyways.

Never had a chance to bother about those pts. Good to know, Pome's a deadbeat. Thanx.

Skipping Moscow is a right choice if there's no need points-wise to go there, but I hate the idea not seeing her even if she tanks it as badly as she usually does at the Kremlin Cup

LewisCarroll This draw seems pretty doable. Even though Aljona has that thing of being capable not only to win but also to lose to everyone, I think she gonna guarantee some points here. Those points will certainly be useful of going to YEC.

Re: Jelena Ostapenko

Seoul WTA / 1st Quater

Ostapenko [1] - Larsson
Hibino - Chang Kai-Chen
Cepede - [Q]
Ahn - Maria [6]

Alona played vs the Swede only once in 1R Auckland 2016 and defeated her 61 75. Larsson is a journeywoman from RC who's never healthy and has neither temper nor game when it comes to HC tennis, her hardcourt excercises were always pathetic. Suicidal brainless top-spinning, that's what she does on the surface most of the times when enters HC events.
AFAIC Chang is a total mess, but her H2H against Hibino tells otherwise. For starters, I'd still go for Hibino to advance, Chang's an obsolete ITF player. If Nao doesn't tank it, she's another good matchup for Baby Penko. They met in Dubai's Q-1R in 2016, Nao lost 64 64.
It's the first Asian HC-event ever for Cepede, so it might be a qualifier who advances further. Anyways, Nika's H2H with Penko 0-1, they met at Vancouver ITF in 2015, she lost 63 75.
Kristie is no match for any decent WTA player, but with Tanya who's useless on HC outdoors they're even. Thus, Ahn might sneak into 2R or even in 3R which is unlikely. Maria is still in Quebec and it remains to be seen if she arrives in Korea.

As 1st seed Lena's to play on Tuesday, September 19.

I think Aljona signed up for Linz as well. Unless she has a really atrocious Asian swing or one of the players near her really peaks, I doubt she will need to play Moscow.

I think it used to stand for $700k prize money, but the prize money is more than that now.

Exactly. Those Top 20 WCs is another example of messing with people's minds by WTA. It's not bloody obvious those are for ones who finished the previous season within top 20. It's like with basic Premiers, they officially call it Premiers 700. What on earth that 700 stands for, could anybody shed light on that?! Well, it's rhetorical

Nope. Impossible to expect from the tournament which couldn't have the damn roof fixed for ages to post their entry list, it's Austria, they can't be bothered with something like that. Nobody knows who's going there, only Azarenko stated she'd enlisted in Linz. As for Alona, it would be strange to go there, she's to stay 3 weeks in Asia, goes back to Europe to play the Kremlin Cup, then she's back in Asia to play whichever of two events she's to play. I can't see her playing 5 or 6 weeks in a raw, so I guess she'll have a week off and it's the 41th one. Whatever happens in Asia, no way she skips Moscow, it's Rublev's 20th birthday in the KC week, I believe they're good friends, she can't miss it. Thus, no Linz for Baby Penko, it's for Germans and their neighbours, anyway.
