Dasha overcomes Qiang, 26 63 64, to win her first-ever Wimbledon main draw match

Eastbourne champion and (19) Dominka Cibulkova awaits in the next round

Still gluck to Dasha!

Re: Daria Gavrilova

Interesting as think Dasha getting coached by Jarryd Maher. He was an ex decent pro who is a hitting partner for TA players. Does coach but not sure how he will go coaching a top pro. Nice guy with good attitude but so could be good for Dasha.

Gluck to Dasha at Wimbledon!

Faces Qiang Wang first round. Qiang hasn't played since the French Open.

Get that win, Dasha

Yeah but it's an opportunity missed, if she could've gotten past Keys in R2 the draw would've really opened up for her. Oh well.

MDM was a tough opponent, played really well in the bits of the match I saw. She was obviously full of confidence after last week's final appearance in Nurnberg.

Considering how many scrub vs scrub matches there were in R1, this was an unlucky draw for Dasha

Re: Daria Gavrilova

Daria is finding it easier to hunt the big names, but not comfortable the other way around as yet.

Re: Daria Gavrilova

Daria faces Mariana Duque-Marino in the first round of RG.

Maybe not the ideal opponent.

Marina got to the final of Nuremberg, but Dasha's had a tremendous claycourt season beating several Top 10 players. It will be an interesting match, but Dasha should come through it and at least defend her second round points.

For Daria Gavrilova, the qualifying process is completely out of her hands. The 22-year-old Australian is in the midst of her best season so far but her recent change in citizenship from Russia to Australia has complicated her eligibility status and as of now, she will not qualify unless the ITF rules in her favor on her appeal.

"I really want to play," Gavrilova said. "I really do. So I would be very disappointed. I'll probably cry."

Ranked No.45, Gavrilova has put together a strong clay season after making the Round of 16 at the Australian Open, and could play the role of spoiler when the tournament begins in Paris. She's trying not to let the Olympics weigh on her.

"I don't think about it a lot because it's not up to me," she said. "I'm just waiting for the decision. I can't do anything about it."

Unfair that she couldn't play the required 2 Fed Cup ties, because the ITF wouldn't allow her to play in February and then eventually allowed her to play in April when she appealed.. too late though to comply with the two-ties rule.
