Re: 2012 Season

Good start of the season qualifying for Shenzhen, then a really bad loss at AO.

However, I dont think she is done, wont be surprised if she finds her form soon all of a sudden. Its not like she is completely hopeless.

Lets see what happens. Meanwhile, Im opening 2013 cheering thread.

What has happened to Anne Keothavong's website, has it closed down?

Re: 2012 Season

I agree I think we have to recognise Anne's talents, I wonder if the Injury she substained in Stanford in 2009 curtailed her? she had those three SF's in 2009.

Last year was a dreadful year for Anne but I cant help thinking that Watson and Robson's success has has an affect, it must be hard to see these two young girls come up and just by pass her and Baltacha.

Anne's major problem is her mental strength, in contrast to Watson and Robson Anne is a good starter and then loses her way.

She has few points to defend so maybe she will play the ITF circuit for a bit.

I can see Anne going into Commentary, if the likes of Barry Cowan, Lucie Ahl and Paul Hand can do that then Anne can, Anne's achievements should be recognised but ultimately the younger two girls are mentally stronger and ultimately better tennis players.

Re: 2012 Season

Evans, I agree with you I think we have to remember Anne's achievements and the fact is she has been successful in terms of ranking, playing regularly in Grand Slams and reaching a SF every year from 2008-11. I can see Anne going into TV commentary and I think she will do well, if the likes of Paul Hand and Lucie Ahl can do that and they achieved nothing then Anne can and I would not begrudge her.

However she has virtually no ranking points to defend this year except Wimbledon so we may see some wins yet but the most alarming part of Anne's game is her mental fragility and Tennis is all about the mind...

Re: 2012 Season

It's a shame because throughout the 'noughties' she was, without a doubt, the most successful Women's British tennis player.

5 WTA Semi Finals including one in a Premier tournament.
3rd round of the US Open in '08.
19 ITF Titles (1 $100k, 1 $75k, 4 $50k, 7 $25k, 7 $10ks)
Career High of #48.
Over $1,200,000 in prize money.

It's such a shame she's lost total form

Re: 2012 Season

I actually think she is quite talented, her groundstrokes are easily top 50 material when she is 'on'

But she has horrendous shot selection, and mentally she is incredibly weak. Shame.

Re: 2012 Season

She has never had the mental toughness of a Baltacha or the natural talent of a Watson or Robson..its a real shame but maybe this is the end for Anne...

Re: 2012 Season

I personally don't think it has much, if anything, to do with Laura and Heather.

The bad form has pretty much been there since the beginning of 2011. Only a brief run of form at the end of 2011 kept her in top 100 for 2012, and once those points were off, she plummeted. So it doesn't really seem that it can be because of the youngsters. I think she is just coming to the end of her career, and lacks real fight.

She served for both sets today, and in fact was up 52 with a DOUBLE break in the second set.

Re: 2012 Season

If Johanna Konta qualifies then she no doubt leapfrog Keothavong in the rankings...

Re: 2012 Season

Anne did say a few years back she was not content to play the tour being ranked down in the hundreds.

Does anybody think the success of Robson and Watson has affected Anne in a negative way?

Re: 2012 Season

Kinda expected, but still...

Just not sure how motivated she'll continue to be with losses like this.

Anne led 52 and serving in the second set......

Very disappointing.

Re: 2012 Season

Sadly Anne lost her 1R Qualifying match to Grace Min 7-5 7-5, I starting to think this is it for Keothavong now...

Re: 2012 Season

Do you think she will qualify for Melbourne? its likely she will be unseeded in the Qualifying...
