Re: Date Kimiko Return!

Great news KDK fans!,Kimiko has successfuly undergone left knee meniscus surgery on April 21 in Kobe University hospital. From her blog Kimiko says She will be discharged tommorow, and is very relieved the surgery was a success and is over.Kimiko will be back in Tokyo rehab soon.Wishing her a speedy but full recovery, and hoping She will back out there in a few months time.I guessed She would have the surgery [second],Kimiko still loves competing and doesn't want to retire yet,so hoping She can be out there pain free and not putting more stress and damage on her body.......... get well soon KDK...

Re: Date Kimiko Return!

Thx for the update! This is so sad, doesn't look likely that she will be back, but she has nothing to prove at this point. Respect.

Tess We are all hoping for comeback, but as mentioned she has achieved so much already, proving age is no barrier

Re: Date Kimiko Return!

Oh that's sad, I'm still really hoping for a miracle cure for her, but she's inspired a lot of people in her comeback career regardless of what happens now.

Re: Date Kimiko Return!

she's been such an inspiration to everyone who loves the sport

a pity she had so many close losses and bad draws , but she also had so many amazing moments in this fantastic comeback !
if this were to be the end ... she could be oh so proud of herself

good luck with any decision she makes

Poor Kimiko...Pity all these injuries may be the way She retires again...I guess She will recover fro this procedure first, then decide....I woudn't be suprised if She has the meniscus done .She still seems very keen to compete and play matches.Just a shame her body seems to have other ideas and is breaking down.If anyone can make a comeback I think Kimiko can do it..... Time will tell what her decision will be..Hope She gets a good rest in,and comes back stronger.

Tess Sad way to end perhaps but at her age her its always a chance her body will break down. Therefore unless she has another surgery she cant play properly it seems, so will she do this and try and comeback again OR retire?

Re: Date Kimiko Return!

English translation from her facebook page:

<Kimiko's blog (summary) dated Feb. 21>
Iím sorry for the delay in reporting to everyone, but I had a surgery on Feb. 16th as originally scheduled.
I went into the hospital the day before the surgery and was released the day after. It was an endoscopic surgery under a total anesthesia. The surgery merely took 30 to 40 minutes. It began at 2:00 pm and I was already awake by 3:30 pm.
Iím now at home. The pain is almost gone and I am recovering day-by-day to the point that I hardly use the crutches.
I started the rehab the day after I got out of the hospital.
My surgeon was Dr. Akiyoshi Saito, an orthopedist specializing in the field of sports injury of the knee.
Originally, I was supposed to get suture meniscal, but after he viewed my knee with an endoscope, I was told that the condition was worse than expected. The outer left knee cartilage was totally worn out. Some floating particles were found, so they were removed. At this time, the doctor decided not to do the suture meniscal surgery and as a result, I ended up having my knee cleansed.
According to the doctorís explanation, complete recovery to the athlete level will be very difficult now. In order to return to the life of a professional player, another surgery would be necessary. And even if I chose not to resume the life of an athlete, participating in competitive sports will still be difficult.
If I were to get another operation, it would be inevitable to take some time before making a comeback. I have been thinking about the choices I have.
Kimiko Date-Krumm as an athlete or Kimiko Date-Krumm as a person who loves sports Ė these are my choices and I would like to delve into this issue to make the best decision for my future.

Re: Date Kimiko Return!

Kimiko got news from her MRI,She has a torn meniscs in the left knee...Kimiko's blog was nice to read,She thought about retirement immediately, and guessed the AO qualies would be her last GS,singles anyway...She decided to undergo endoscopic surgery on the left knee,She stated it was her first OP in her tennis life, but Said She still wants to compete and loves the tour, and this will be her last big challenge as an athlete...Kimiko says The days were She is able to compete 100% and pain free are very few, even with the surgery there is no guarantee of pain free tennis, but She want's to give it a go...Kimiko hopes to be straight into rehab following surgery and competing again.....Kimiko says She is unsure when She will play again, but want's support .........
Really hoping Kimiko's surgery is a success and it will help her with pain free tennis,I guess we have enjoyed her 2nd comeback for 7 or 8 years now,But it is evident Kimiko's herat is still in tennis ,but her body's age is catching up abit now, making her prone t more injuries and pain...Comeback soon Kimiko,She will get PR anyway i guess..
