Could have thrown a bit of a curveball at the Romanians I guess as they'd be preparing to play Heather. I think Heather was the right/safer choice though.. Laura's form is just not reliable.

Also, I noticed that the rest of the Japanese tournaments are on carpet.. Is that a fast surface then? Because I know Japan also has those slow carpet courts, can't remember the surface name though.

Something like this. Balls bounces really low and it's really hard to move on

I think Joss helped out a bit too. But yeah, she played really well in doubles and looked to be having fun too.

If they're outdoor carpet, that's usually code for artificial grass (and don't forget to bring your flipflops).

Ah. I mean there's not huge progress clearly, but she HAS won several 25K and 50K matches this year. Last year, other than a great august, she almost didn't win a single ITF maindraw really (A win In las vegas and QF in Atlanta being the highlights). She's definitely a little more consistent I think. :/

Laura looked really fragile in her fedcup training pics. Doesn't look like Shes doing much training

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

I noticed Laura wasn't on the alternate list of the Roland Garros entry list that came out yesterday while many ranked around her were. Doens't mean she won't enter Qualies, but that was curious.

She is entered into $80k Gifu 1-8 May. There are then 3 more $60k tournaments on hard courts in Asia during the following weeks - Fukuoka, Kurume and Luan. Luan overlaps RG Q which has me thinking that Laura might skip the clay completely this season. Wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea if she could get some wins in Asia.

Just to randomly link these two things together, I think this is one big difference between Jo and Laura. Jo was willing to listen to the advise from her mental coach and apply it to her tennis.

Of course, I don't know the extent of Laura's supposed sports psychology sessions but we know she can be stubborn and she also admitted that she was sceptical of it. I fear that she would never be able to utilise mental coaching and improve her game in the way that Jo did. But we will see I suppose and she does still have a fair amount of time on her side.

As ElfDanielFire said, she's only been fully healthy since the start of last year, and while it must be frustrating for her, she's ranked around 200, not 1000. I don't think retirement is even close to within the question.

Anyway, Laura IS making steady progress, this is clear. If she can start to take the chances she gets in some of the 60K matches then there is hope.

This couldn't be closer to the truth. It's easy to blame the coach for everything but yourself.
