Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

Just saw the 2R=QF doubles result.

I'm afraid they got their arses kicked 6-3 6-1.

Didn't see the game, but it wouldn't surprise me if Stef was exhausted or stiff after yesterday.

Good partner.

I see her old mate Mandy is also in the draw; how long is it since they played together?

Edit: Just seen the scoreline - 6 sets in one day, the last 13-11! her muscles must have been screaming after that! And she backs up this afternoon in the doubles.
I know she's super fit, and nobody plays more tournaments than Stef, but sometimes it must catch up with her.

I'm chuffed that she's playing doubles with Kris Plis and they won their first match

Yeah, I noticed that her service motioned has changed

Big call, Zheng is 70 in the world and played in the Elite Trophy just a few months ago.

The one and only time they played, USO '14, Stef was the favourite and lost in 3 sets.

I like her recent form (awful first set this afternoon notwithstanding), and her tenacity and never-beaten attitude might just carry her through.

Fingers crossed!

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

I should qualify, I was referring to how she played in the first set. Truly awful.

It's a bit of a cliché, but one of the key mental skills of the game is to put the last point behind you, and concentrate on the next one.

And Stef is doing this superbly, IMHO. Particularly when her back is to the wall.

Poor you, I think I've seen an infinitude of wonkier matches from her though her streamed matches were pretty rare.

With a new serve motion she can't take preparation time off the opponent any more but a steady ball toss can give her more chances to develop than losses.
Looks like the windy condition has thankfully broken Chang's rhythm at the end.

Today is a good day.

God's in His heaven, and all's well with the world.

30 juicy points.

Talk about winning ugly, though. Never seen her play worse, but boy, our girl is TOUGH!

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

Press clippings.

From Vavel:
First off, the biggest event of the week was won by Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele. The former world number 42 has struggled with injuries and consistency in recent years, forcing her to drop out of the top 100 for the first time since 2012. However, after losing in the second round of qualifying at the Australian Open, Voegele, seeded second, rebounded in impressive style, outclassing Belgium's An-Sophie Mestach in nearly every department to win the $50,000 event in Andrezieux-Boutheon, a commune of the Loire department in central France.

From 20 Minuten:

Solid win from Stefi. She has to be glad that she survived Amric and Golubic.

Re: Stefanie Vögele!!!

Yay! First title in 4 years!

Glad I stayed up, even if the stream was v laggy.
And now it's cut out just before the presentation. Sigh.

So happy for her. A piece of silverware at long last. On to Taiwan with confidence and momentum.
