Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

Irina signed with CSM Bucuresti.

Nightcrawl3r Begins 2017 in Brisbane and then continues in Sydney (where she was last in ) .

Nothing else much on social media from her or *others (*that would involve her) as far as I saw, except the pics from Halep's late birthday party.

Only got in 69th place in terms of votes, out of Top 100 players, in the TF polls.

2016 season comes to an end for Irina with a first round loss in Moscow Well it mostly ended after the clay season but she still managed to win another WTA title and reach a new CHR of #22 so definitely a very good year, considering also the injury she suffered in the very first week

This was a good opportunity wasted . . If it wasn't for the brainfarts in the 1st game of the 2nd set and at *3-2 in the 3rd, we would have seen a different winner maybe. Also, that lucky net cord on game point at *2-3 in the 2nd set .

Well, last stop : Moscow. Even with a title there, Zhuhai is unreachable (which was her objective) . Seemed reachable till the US swing though ...

Yes, Irina lost the plot really bad after that game where Muguruza broke back from 30-30 with a DF and a very dumb UE. But in fairness Irina wasn't making a lot of points herself, was pretty much relying on misses from Muguruza.

Muguruza won 2-6 6-2 6-3.
I saw only parts of 1st set and 3rd.
Irina had very good patches of play throughout the match.
She got frustrated at the middle of the 3rd set when Muguruza took her break back.

Like she's a professor in English now , though she improved. My initial thought was that she was let to know some hours before the OOP that she will play on Monday, she didn't want to and tried to talk to someone about that, but with no success.

Or she just saw when the OOP was released and she obviously couldn't do anything after that.

Or like you say, though it's the least understandable option from only such a written context here IMO.

Not surprising that she is still in the draw. It didn't look like anything bad... probably just a muscle strain. If it wasn't anything more severe than that, it's just a matter of a couple of days. Was just unlucky she couldn't recover properly and had to play the next day.

Re: Irina-Camelia Begu Cheering Thread!

@Not A Fan : Well, Simona herself proved me right in the end . I read the press conference just today:

"Q.*Why play doubles if you were concerned about the leg?
SIMONA HALEP: When I came here, as I said, I didn't feel pain. Friday or Thursday night Monica asked me. I said that I want to play. Maybe I play doubles before singles to get used a little bit after injury and after two weeks off.

But the schedule was totally different and I couldn't say anything anymore. But I'm happy that now I have pain-free and I can play doubles, as well."

Coming back to Irina, she's still on the Beijing list. Draw to be done on Friday (morning in Romania) with MD matches to begin on Saturday already. Hoping for a good one, as Top seeds will not have BYEs here.

Tell that to the RG organizers.

(sorry, still pressed about that one and wrong player forum, but it's gonna take a while for me to forget it)

IDK, but I have my reservations here that she asked specifically to play singles on Monday and Doubles on Tuesday.

As for doubles, any tournament of any category would give a doubles WC to a top 5 singles player without too much hesitation.
