Only because all the other female players are jealous of how pretty Jelena is.

Take a job as a club pro? That's what Brie Whitehead has done, anyway.

Equating years of watching tennis to number of posts? - hmmm... Anyway, I don't pretend to be able to read her mind - and she is a woman after all. If Jelena's as likely to want to earn a buck behind a mic as Sharapova is contesting a quiet set of tennis then it is a crap idea. No doubt about it. In a perfect world a tennis academy sounds super. Tell me, what else do tennis players who fade into obscurity do if they still need to earn?

Chill.

If you read my post you'll notice I referred to Molik and Golovin as scrubs, not Courier and other 50 years old. Let's stick to those closer to Jelena's age.

But good idea.

Jelena's record is so much better and her name more worthy than those scrubs.
When the time has arrived she will open a kids tennis academy in Croatia/Serbia.
I can feel it.
Good idea. However, instead of 'shooting from the hip' when you reply, why not read my post first? Unless tennis lovers in applicable countries in Europe have dematerialised, these people might be interested in her thoughts. You'll notice I referenced them first. As for the other well considered component of your reply, go and tell, Jim Courier, John McEnroe and Tracy Austin et al they are scrubs with an inferior record to Jelena. Better still, open a tennis academy yourself since you are such a good judge of tennis playing ability. Just a thought.

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

Jelena has a good tennis brain so to speak. I've only heard her once, but I think she is quite insightful behind the microphone during a tennis match. I hope that other people think so too and she can cash in on this ability and her popularity, such that it is, in Europe, in Australia, or wherever that may be as much as possible. IMO, if you put a summary of Jelena's record up (including 2 x Year End Championships and world No. 4 ranking) during an introduction to her entering a commentary team there could be sweet FA said about her right to hold the mic.

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

Honestly, at her age she might be too injury-prone to put in the necessary training to be a top player once again. At this point I think it's more than lack of motivation or desire. Between her shoulder, her wrist, and her back she has had a number of injuries already and rarely has played for several months without something else going wrong.

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

I find it very weird that a few months ago she was posting how excited she is about training and can't wait to come back? and now nothing??? not even an update? just doesn't seem right.

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

I really have no idea what could she do after retirement and how would she earn money for comfortable life. However, I always had faith in her comebacks, but next month she is 30 and starting from unranked at that age is just hard to believe. If she would get a protected ranking of 129, then I would still believe, but like this ...

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

What does someone like Jelena do after retiring from tennis? She could go to college but it seems she wouldn't start a business career because her salary wold be far below what she made as a top player. Would she just marry a rich guy and have babies?

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

I know Jelena has a long history of playing her own game of Where On Earth is Carmen Sandiego, but a twitter comment here or facebook post there would really go a long way

I'm still not giving up hope until she makes an official comment, but it is looking very, very, grim

EDIT: Or if Milan confirms the retirement

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

^ jela_dokic: I understand you still hope but the fact is Jelena's career has come to an end. She has had no connections to tennis the last 3 months. Milan is in talks with Damir and can confirm this.

Re: Jelena Dokic Ranking Thread

For thoese who desperately hoped (including me) that Jelena might have gone back to work with her old coach Borna Bikic secretly somewhere, I can tell that last hope is gone too.

Borna is the new coach of Aravane Rezai and has worked with her for the last couple of months at the Mouratoglou academy.
