Re: OLYMPIC CHAMPION Monica Puig

Pica I was afraid a let down was going to happen. Zheng played inspired tennis after Monica went up early. Disappointing for sure, but I honestly feel like she wasn't prepared. She had some time off after Rio and had a lot of commitments after winning gold.

Re: OLYMPIC CHAMPION Monica Puig

Just realized that the reason for the favorable draw is the withdrawal from the USO Tournament of Sloan Stevens, the #24 seeded, due to a foot injury. Consequently, Monica came to occupy the #32 seeded and assured herself not to meet a seeded player before R-3. Hey, we'll take the good luck event, however, this shows the importance to improve the ranking before the end of the season to assure seeding in the Australia run of 2017....

She got the best draw she could, even with Muguruza cause honestly Garbi is not on form. Let's hope she just keeps a good level of tennis and the results will come.

Re: OLYMPIC CHAMPION Monica Puig

For those who do not remember, Monica defeated Saisai Zheng two times during the 2014 WTA Rising Stars Tournament in Singapore that Monica won undefeated...We'll see what happens in R-1, which should set the tempo for the rest of the run in the 2016 USO for Mo...Go girl, do what U do best, Your fans got Ur back...

Logic is not too reliable in the WTA. I hope you are right though!

You are absolutely right. With all the top of the line players it is very unlikely to see another teenage phenom like the Williams sisters, Hingis, etcetera, according to Monica's first coach, VOS. Very hard for Monica to have a good shot at number 1. It just may be the big bucks that are now available.

I don´t think Kerber underestimated Monica either. Maybe some of her fans thought it was in the bag, but certainly not me. Those courts in Rio were perfect for Monica. Now Angie gets to #1 in New York and everything is perfect.

I am sorry about my sarcasm. What I meant was that Kerber seemed to me to be impressed by the way Monica was playing back in Brisbane 2013, which I thought was a compliment. But then again, I have a hard time understanding women's tennis.

Patrick has been a Monica fan all this time too. You can see that in the GM section.

I am cool with Kerber getting to number 1 in NY. Kerber doesn't need to win the tournament in order to get to #1
