it was great following Iveta's tennis endeavors over the last some years. But like everything in this universe, careers have an end. Best wishes to you, your nearest, and your very distant fans! So long

Re: Iveta Benesova cheering thread! vol2

Dear all,

So this is the end of my journey as a professional tennis player. This
wasn’t an easy decision because tennis has been my life since I was a
little girl, but it's about the right time. I feel it in my heart.
Being out for over a year and still facing continuous shoulder
problems has not been easy for me, so this thought has been on my mind
for some time. The truth is also that after so many years on tour, it
is hard for me to find the determination or desire to make tennis my
number one priority in life. So deep down inside me I know that this
is the right time for me to move on.

I would have never believed that time would fly so fast. I still
remember like it was yesterday when my father brought me to the courts
when I was 7 and I started to hit my first tennis balls, or later,
when I decided to put in all of my devotion and try to become
professional. I remember the first points on tour and the goals I was
trying to reach; the hard times I was giving my coaches, because there were certain situations i was difficult, but also the fun we had along the way; all of the great
and successful moments and also the bad ones. I would have done a few
things differently, but I have absolutely no regrets. I am grateful
for every single experience and I believe it was part of the process
to learn, become stronger and a better person. Today I can say I
enjoyed my career with all the ups and downs.

I would like to thank so many people that helped me and were part of
this journey... My coaches, my fitness trainers, my managers, my
sponsors, my friends, and of course, above all, my family. They taught
me how to grow throughout the years on a personal and professional
level. Thank you all for always being there for me and believing in me
no matter what.

Thank you, dad, for showing me the door into this beautiful sport and
for your endless support and enthusiasm. You were the most important
part of my career and without you I wouldn’t have achieved anything.

Thank you Juergen, my husband, my best friend. You’re one of the
reasons I will always love this sport, because I got a chance to meet
you and become part of your life. Thanks for your love and support in
every situation. And of course I have to mention the grand slam you
helped me to win, Wimbledon 2011. You made my dream come true. I’m
glad to be there for you now and enjoy your journey…

Thanks to all my fans, for your love, respect, but also for your
criticism; it pushed me to be better. Thank you for your sense of
humor and kind words even after bad losses. We keep in touch!

Thanks to the WTA. It was special to be part of this tennis family for
over a decade. I had a chance to meet great people in this business
who were always there to help.

And now it is time for a new chapter. There were times I used to be
worried about the future after tennis. I’m not afraid anymore, because
I know what I want. I have new goals and dreams, and I am looking
forward to new challenges. I will always be grateful for the
opportunity to live such an extraordinary life. I am living my dreams.

Good luck Iveta

Can't say I'm surprised about that, but I'm still sad that she's about to retire from tennis.
It was pretty obvious she wouldn't come back from zero. Too bad her should is not OK even after the surgery.

Oh well... let's enjoy her last tournaments now!

Ivey will very likely retire soon, she has 3 protected entries left and doesn´t want to start from zero and shoulder is not OK.

Lost to Coco despite 2 set points in the first. Folded in the second.

Re: Iveta Benesova cheering thread! vol2

Coco is rusty and is also coming back from injury. I think it is her first tournament since Marrakesh. Iveta has a good chance to get a win here, even though her opponent might her some free points thanks to her good serve. If she moves Coco around the court all the time, things will get a lot easier.

I really really really hope she takes her chances in Paris! Good luck, baby !!

She has to win this match, fingers crossed.

She'll have 4 tournaments left on PR after that. Hopefully she's smart with them and play some clay MMs after Wimbledon to get in the low 200s or something.

Iveta back at the FO after a two-year absence. Plays Coco first round. Will Iveta get her first win of the year here?

Lost 7-5 6-4 to Svitolina. Quite encouraging, isn't? She now has used 4 SR and we must hope for a dream draw in Paris.
