Re: Your tennis results?!

Last week I played the best match of my life
Against a better and much more experienced player
Before the start of the match my coach said to me: just enjoy and not get crazy(as always)
Because he is better than you but it will be good for you to get experience!

I started a Little nervous and hitting a lot of UEs specially with my FH, literally I couldn't put a FH in
I wasted a 30-0 on serve and he broke for the second time to go *4-1
Although the score was bad I was sure that I could win it if I found my game I didnt feel an abismal diference, he was up thanks to my errors, Yep his serve is good and his FH too but his BH is terrible and he was pushing for the most part..
I started to put a lot of balls back (I am so fast and my defence skills are really good) and hitting almost everything to his BH.
I got to 4-4 but got broken again with stupid errors(including a missed overhead and an easy volley) then he had 2 MP on serve but couldn't take it and then in my 3rd BP he made a DF !!
Then another break - break back( he Double faulted again at 0-40 ) and at 6-6 we decided to not play TB. I held for 7-6 and then have my first MP but missed an easy FH return(so close) but close it out in the next MP 8-6

Sorry for my english

Re: Your tennis results?!

Was playing against friend of mine today and even though I played one of my matches ever I lost 4-6, 6-3, 11-13 (super tiebreak). I was serving really well also forehand and backhand were solid and so was net game, drop shots and everything but also he on other side was playing good match. I can't say I lost my match becuase I hurted my heel on set point in first set (why the hell I was running for that drop shot because I wasn't even close to get ball ) cus I won second set kinda easily But I guess now for some days I can't play tennis for sure cus it is hurting me too much

In last 4 years or something we have played for sure 50+ times and yesterday I defeated him only for the third time ever! [emoji38]
And not only that, I won it straight sets 6-4, 7-5!

I had only two blips in the match. At the start I went down 0-2 and in the second set I was leading 5-3 just to lose 2 games in a row. Luckily it was me who took the next 2 games.

I played actually very solid for my standards, and I was unbelievable consistant! It happened many times in the past that I started really well, but then too often my game just fell apart and I could lose even 5, 6, 7 and more games in a row.

Even though my technique is horrible and ugly, my BH was really solid yesterday, the same can be said about my serve which is much better than it was 2 years ago for example. FH is my huge liability but yesterday I at least manage to put the ball on the court most of the time.

I really feel much more stronger with my BH. I have to improve my FH badly.
Another thing - the movement. I think I'm pretty fast around the court but my anticipation and movement is just horrible. Many times I lose the point right because of this.

Anyway, it was nice to play decent tennis for 2 whole sets and hopefully I can play like this and even better many times in the future.
So glad you wrote this out. Firstly because good job on the win Secondly because it describes 100% the tennis relationship I have with a friend as well!

I've known him for almost 6 years now. He's played tennis for like 15 years I think. I've only played about 5-6. He's a lot better than me, and over these 6 years we've played I'm sure 100+ times.

I have literally beaten him 3 times...

They've all come this year as well, so I can sense a better improvement. Won 64 63 in January and then again 63 62 in April and then a 3rd time I beat him 63 60 at end of May. I kind of don't count the most recent, as we played in 90+ degree Farenheit heat and he clearly was struggling and my drop shots landing on the service line he wasn't even attempting. But he still continued the match and put in some effort so I guess it counts [emoji14]

It's so satisfying to actually play decent for a long stretch of a match... I'm usually dominated from the start and have to play catch up. And honestly, when he's in the zone, I just have to hope he starts playing badly. There are some days I can't do a single thing to disrupt his rhythm for longer than maybe 2-3 points, then he's back blasting winners by me

The win in April was honestly my best. The ones in Jan and May were bc he played terrible and I wasn't even particularly impressive but he was worse so he didn't win the clutch points he always does. Tons of errors after 2-3 shots (which is usually what I do). The win in April though was okay though. I was hitting the ball cleaner than ever. I played him after that at the beginning of May and lost a really tight match. He won 67(8) 63 [11-9]. It was almost 10 pm so we opted to just do a super tiebreak. I was soooo close to winning. Saved 4 set points in first set to win it. Was up 7-4 in the super tiebreak as well (I still lament that drop shot I tried at 8-8 in the super tiebreak )

But it's satisfying 1000% when I can actually consistently play well. That match I just spoke about was one of my best in years against him tbh. Serve was working. I ACTUALLY HIT WINNERS FROM THE BASELINE. I'm that player that hits maybe 5 winners a match. 1 due to a dead netcord. 1-2 due to passing shots. 1-2 due to a stray, nicely angled CC shot that he doesn't attempt to go for.

Anyway, didn't mean to go off on a tangent lol but here's to hoping we have more days of consistent play

Not because I defeated you but because I managed to play decent tennis for more than 15 minutes.

Re: Your tennis results?!

The las week played a club match to get ready for a mini-tournament this week

I played with a guy who i had already defeated 6-2 6-1 two weeks ago
but this match was different, he played great and i played really bad, I started the match hitting errors and a lot of DF all over the place
he served for the set 5-2(two breaks) but his serve is so weak too, I break and barely hold at 3-5 (even tough I hit 2 DF to start the game and one more at 40-30)
and then started to play so much better and won the next 7 games, but at 7-5 4-0 the errors and the DF returned... And barely closed the match 7-5 6-4 after 2 hours!
Hit at least 15 DF

But before the mini tournament I took two intensive classes and that worth it
I won the tournament
1R: 6-2
SF 6-3
F: 6-4
The final was a great match, because we were the favourites

I need to improve my serve, and the worst part is that Im 6ft 2in

Spencer. After smashing my racket, I bought a new one and played my same friend.

And I beat him 63 62

We've played one another over 50 times (literally, no joke). This is my 2nd win off him in 6 years.

Both times I've won, it's been on the 29th day of the month. Last win was January 29, 2016

Re: Your tennis results?!

Finished in first place in my doubles indoor league... Of course 75% of my opponents were at least 25 years older than I am

Spencer. 06 57.

Had *5-3 and 2 SPs at 5-4*.

Then I turned into a tantrum child and broke my racket. So disgusted in myself. Clearly have no tennis mentality. Can't just fucking focus. I always have to do something stupid

Maybe 1 day I'll learn.

Re: Your tennis results?!

Just played tennis first time this year and won against friend 6-4, 6-2 after being down *0-4 in first set xD Wasnt even playing that bad, especially some points on net were kinda good, also service and forehand were okayish but backhand disaster as always

Re: Your tennis results?!

Looked through my results this season and close sets and matches I've lost. Obviously STBs are in brackets.

6-4 (this one was in a win)
7-6 6-4
(10-5)
(10-8)
7-6 (10-4)
7-5

There was only one lost match that I felt like the other guy was way too consistent and I was way too bad, I had no chance. The next time, I played the same guy and scoreline didn't look good but that time I hit way more winners than he did. So I couldn't count that as a close match but it wasn't too far off.

I've got two more matches to finish things on a good note .

Re: Your tennis results?!

1-6 5-7. Same ol' . Apart from two matches, all my losses since December have involved at least one close set or STB .

Saved a bunch of MPs at 3-5 and 4-5 (mostly his fuck-ups, but hey, I still didn't miss , and I did hit one winner and a good serve on two of those) only to get broken at 5-5 anyway .

2 more weeks and the season is over . I'm gonna get some coaching for the first time in ages after that. There are still so many basic things I barely or don't know how to do well .
