Well techically, she doesn't have to drop those points. WTA tour in 2016. matches the weeks from this season, so she can defend those points, or earn more, if she enters and wins Brisbane.

She is likely to finish this year somewhere between 16 and 18.

Ana can still remain at 16, because Wozniacki won't earn points with only one win in group. She needs to win both matches in group in order to pass Ana. Errani also won't pass Ana even if she beats Pliskova, and she doesn't have the chance to pass her group anymore, I think, so no more points for her. Madison also won't pass Ana, as Venus will beat Saisai for sure, while Madison can't pass Ana with only one win in group, and she already lost to Venus.

Only three players can pass Ana:

Wozniacki needs to win both matches in her group, or to go 1-1 in her group, but to reach the final. Semifinals with only 1 win in group will not be enough.

Jankovic needs Errani to beat Pliskova and then herself to reach the final, in order to pass Ana.

Svitolina needs to reach the final. If Carla beats her tomorrow, she will not advance to the semis.

This means that Ana will finish at 19, in worst possible case. However, it's not likely that all these three players do what was written above. Ana will probably either stay at 16, or fall to 17-18, IMO. But it's not really that it makes any important difference.

Like you noticed, it's much more important to defend points from Brisbane, or earn more.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread

You can already count Ana as player who is not in top 10 anymore.

This season Tokyo is played one week later than in 2014, so her points will drop earlier and she won't even have the chance to defend them and try to stay in top 10. On Sep. 21st, she will be ranked somewhere between 11 and 13, depending on what other players do at US open. And considering her "form", she clearly won't be able to win title again to regain top 10 status.

True.. Tokyo 14 was such a one of a kind tournament it even made it look like Ana had a tennis brain. Seriously though, she played great tennis out of nowhere to win that tournament.. I say out of nowhere because truth to be told she didnt play great tennis before (even making Cincy final was around really patchy play) and didnt play great tennis afterwards.

I don't blame her when she stop saying ridiculous things. But of course will cheer for her whenever she plays. Most here now are helpless cases may be.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread

We all know she'll be fine ...and somehow she'll give us hope again
it doesn't matter if your fav. player is winning or losing actually you feel sad more with a loss when you are used to winning .... It's our mistake that we have a fav. player whoever she/he is .. I actually can't blame her if she isn't doing her work well

I think she is going to rest for 2 weeks.. because, you know, she has been playing so much.. and then she will go back to practice and complain how she has no time to get her fitness together.

That's true.. she wouldn't have Shiseido as a sponsor if she had not returned to top 10.. They ended up choosing wrong..

But that status is not what makes me happy, I'd like her to be tennis star at one slam tournament again, before she retires.

She was better when she was trying to return top the top 10 in 2012-2013 ...
She has to start the comeback campaingn or she will lose half her Super Star status.
