Re: Arantxa Rus

Aran qualified last week for WTA Seoul, her first WTA tournament in over a year. (Last one was Bastad 2015) She lost 2&2 to the eventual champion Arruabarrena. This week she's playing 25k Hua Hin, first round against a Chinese qualifier, Jiaxu Chen.

Re: Arantxa Rus

Difficult start, but in the end is all OK as she beat Eric 6-4 6-2!
Next up: Martina Trevisan (WTA-419), should be an easy win imo. She played her last year somewhere in Italy, and I saw parts of this match. Even though Aran lost, I was not impressed with Trevisan.

Re: Arantxa Rus

Lost against Schmiedlova in 3 last week. This week seems she's a LE in 25k Aschaffenburg and qualified easily against weak opponents.
Today she booked a nice victory (6-1 6-0) in R1 against Laura Schaeder (WTA-386), who she lost to in Wiesbaden. Next up in R2: Doroteja Eric (WTA-313)

Drew Schmiedlová in first round. Battle of who has been in the longest slump.

Re: Arantxa Rus

Yeah, this was a good week for Aran also point-wise.

She's also directly into 50k Versmold MD next week.

Re: Arantxa Rus

Nope, lost to Pous 3-6 3-6. Got broken to love when serving to stay in the match.

Still, SF in a 50k is probably her best result for three years.

Re: Arantxa Rus

It's been a bit up and down this season. She had a great start, but lately it was pretty bad.
This week however, she booked good wins against Andrea Gamiz (WTA-347), Alizé Lim (WTA-156) and today Anastasya Grymalska (WTA-303): 6-3 6-4
Maybe no exceptional players, but the last two have a decent clay record this year.

I agree that she more or less needs to win the Semi's too though: Laura Pous-Tio (WTA-251, clay 5-14) or Natassja Burnett(WTA-349, clay 10-7)

Reusable comment. Sigh.

(Since this post she's lost to Diyas (100k R16), Tomova (50k R16), Shapatava (25k QF))

She did beat Alizé Lim 1&2 yesterday, but I think that more reflects how useless Lim is at anything on-court related these days.

Re: Arantxa Rus

Akgul is basically a joke now but I really didn't expect a 1&0!

Back to playing tournaments, 25k Wiesbaden this week.
She beat Amanmuradova 1 & 0. Good start!

Re: Arantxa Rus

I'm guessing she was physically done too, to be honest. No Q-matches will be good for her :-)

Re: Arantxa Rus

Lost 46 36 No Shame, Crawford has improved a lot since last year, she's almost top-100 now.

Next week Aran will play 25k Jackson and she's in the MD for that so that's going to save her a few Q matches

Re: Arantxa Rus

There wasn't any stream, but I don't share your optimism just like that. She was 5-0 up in the first, even though the games were close. After that she starting losing a lot of games clearly. It's good that she pulled the win out, but I'm not sure it's that positive. Her opponent hadn't done anything impressive so far this year...
But yeah, without stream or some comments on the match we're guessing.

GL against Crawford, will be a good challenge for sure.
