2K Sports already axed their NHL 2K series because it sold poorly. Guess how many copies the last one sold? A million. You see, it's not enough.
Dude once again wrong.

-The last game in the NHL 2K series( 2k10) sold about 75k in total…not a million.
-The 2k sports NHL games have sold a little over 3 million in total ( the tennis games at 4 million)
- The first few 2k sports NHL games were being sold at 19.99……even further diminishing profit.

Contrary to popular belier, it is NOT costly to do a multi platform game( as long as they are same generation) and is actually more beneficial for a company. As i've stated, 3 of the 4 main tennis series have had million selling games and tennis in the video game world does not have high expectations. You can't compare the NBA to Tennis…..i mean NBA ticket sales and viewership KILLS tennis, so should tennis cease to exist as a sport, or should it lose TV coverage???

I'm not sure if you are aware how the video game world works, but if you aren't from a blockbuster series( COD, Borderlands, GTA, Halo, WWE etc) then it's not easy to reach a million in sales. Many typical established series struggle to do so nowadays ( Tekken, Dead or Alive, Test Drive, Devil May Cry, Soul Calibur).

The real reason tennis games have stopped is because the Top Spin series lost is developer ( PAM) and EA is butthurt over GST2. Namco never really churned out yearly tennis games and i'm sure sega will be announcing their next entry soon.

Re: BOMBSHELL!!! Top Spin 4 announced!

Couldn't WTA and ATP toghether finance a tennis game which includes all top 100 players and all ATP and WTA tour events?
I know it's impossible but FIFA does it with football, so why not?

Anyway, IMO tennis elbow has the best gameplay, but smash court tennis and top spin aren't that bad, while virtua tennis just sucks

The only thing that's kind of financially viable is Sega's arcade-based stuff since they can port it to all kinds of devices and it reaches a broader audience.
A game to sell needs to be good, let's face it. Gameplay wise even Tennis Elbow looks better. EA's latest one was a joke, it's worse than Virtua Tennis, not even accurate, Djokovic hits a one handed backhand.

-The original GST sold nearly 1 million alone( and was a wii exclusive!!)

- The last 2 games in the Smash Court Tennis series are over half a million

The only true flop was EA's horrible Grand Slam Tennis '2'. And it fully deserves that. Otherwise tennis games DO sell, and that is without fancy marketing or huge budgets. Other than the last EA one Namco ,2K and Sega do very little to push their games; you don't even seen ads or commercials (at least here in America and they still sell over a million)!!!

Still, there were flops so a publisher isn't likely to fund the next title if the past one sold poorly. After all they're the ones who have to front the money for development and if they don't see the returns, the title does not get made.

[QUOTE=Jimmie48;35858729]The player lineup is most likely be influenced by various reasons including marketability, licensing costs & hurdles etc. I hardly doubt the nationality of the developers plays a major role with these decisions [ QUOTE]

The WTA Tour games were both made in japan and featured Shinobu Asagoe, Ai Sugiyama, Kimiko Date and Yuka Yoshida(?)

Top Spin 1 & 2 made in USA featured Megan Shaughnessy, Jan Michael Gambil, Ashley Harkelroad, Alex Kuznetsov, Jamea Jackson, Brenddan Evans and Angela Haynes
