What? She's going to qualify directly, probably.

This tournament would be far more interesting if it was for the top 20 players who didn't make it to Istanbul.

The WC idea from the start is horrible. In any case, Cibulkova rings a bell?

Choosing Cibulkova over her at least would merit the title "Tournament of Champions".

Re: Kirilenko gets the 2nd WC for Sofia MM YEC

I never liked this tournament very much. It is basically a chance for 8 players ranked roughly between 11 and 30 for some cheap points who are all more or less randomly selected. I don't see why a player ranked for instance 20 deserves this chance more than a player ranked for instance 17 just because the former won luckily an international while the latter did not. The numbers are just arbitrary here, no particular players in mind .

Still, only the 2 finalists get a really high amount of points, but they don't have to beat top 10 payers, so it is in a way the easiest opportunity all year. For Kirilenko, this is the 4th tournament, she never participated although she was always top 30, so I think she totally deserves her wild card.

They should really give WCs to someone who at least won a tournament this year... even if it's not International. Else why call it Tournament of champions? More like tournament of wild points.
Obviously had either won a tournament they probably wouldn't need a wild card.

If Kirilenko is chosen only based on her look, that's crazy,
this is WTA, not Miss Beauty contest.

BTW, Kirilenko deserves it, QF in WIM, SF in Olympics,

Cibulkova may be a better choice but their seasons are almost equal in term of quality. But yeah, Kirilenko may be more mainstreamed because of her looks.
Kirilenko recently sucks because she was injured. She had to retire because of a back injury at 1-1 1st set at R1 Seoul, then she also had to withdraw from Tokyo. She just came back to action for Peking, but apparently still wasn't at 100 %.
So as many already wrote here, let's hope she will be healthy for Sofia. Then she can be a serious contender for the title there

Re: Kirilenko gets the 2nd WC for Sofia MM YEC

Isnt it called 'Tournament of Champions'

... some kind of YEC.

so whats the point of giving WCs for such a competition.

Imagine if Cagla Buyukakcay (?) receives WC for Istanbul YEC every year.

So now this makes whole tournament looks like a joke.

^ agreed. They should scrap the whole WC idea, and just let those who actually deserve to play here.

Re: Kirilenko gets the 2nd WC for Sofia MM YEC

This tournament has always been a ridiculous idea, but the most ridiculous aspect of it has to be the two wildcards. Nothing against Kirilenko, but If Su-Wei misses out after winning TWO international tournaments...

Apparently not!
