As a supporter of Laura, optimism is definitely a useful quality to have (and indeed for all my faves)

Laura Robson hopes grass season will help her back towards top 100 | Tennis | Sport | London Evening Standard
Quote:
“I obviously enjoy grass but the first couple of practices on it are never fun for anyone,” said Robson, who is hoping to play at a minor ITF tournament in Eastbourne next week, followed by the Aegon Open in Nottingham, where she has been granted a wildcard due to her protected world ranking[sic].
Quote:
"I don’t want to be ranked 300 for much longer,” she said. “Top 100 is my goal. Then I would see where I go after that.”
This is a cheering thread, so I'll refrain from pointing out what her current level of results without her current favourable entry status would see happen to her 300 ranking.

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

She suggested in the interview on ITV4 last night that she may well go there. Good move.

Mr.Sparkle Rumour has it on Twitter that Laura will be playing 50k Eastbourne. Not 100% confirmed though.

Laura is currently at 304.

She needs to win some matches on the grass to make the cut off for the US Open qualifying.

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

Yeah, but the thing Laura hasn't even won a 25 before

That sole itf title came with her when she was junior Wimbledon in 08 .

I don't know how she likes picking up balls herself, probably something she doesn't do often 3/4 her career.

Mr.Sparkle That's true. But maybe that could end up being a good motivator? The toughest part is going to be breaking back into the top 100 from the 150-100 range. Both Jo and Naomi did it by winning 100ks.

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

She won't have a choice. After Wimbledon, the WCs and PRs have gone. So if she wants to be a player on the main tour she literally has one last chance this grass court season to get some big wins otherwise it's a matter of slugging it out on the ITF circuit for god knows how long.

To be fair though, she didn't really try very hard. She entered three ITF tournaments through qualifying this year and lost the first round in two of them, which must have been pretty disheartening. Her attempts at ITF tournaments in 2015 were pretty much disrupted by injury, although she did have a decent run in doubles to a final.

I think she could compete at ITF level, but she just has to be persistent enough. But really I don't think she's made a decent attempt to actually consistently enter and compete at ITF tournaments week in week out yet. Hopefully now she will get a semi decent ranking near the top 300 she will do this.

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

Despite all the tournaments she's competed in this clay court season she still hasn't actually played many matches - only 8 matches from 6 tournaments. From one tournament to another she can go a full week without playing a match. She needs matches, on a daily basis, until she gets back into the swing of things.

Re: Return Winner: The Laura Robson support thread.

Didnt meet the 5 games set goal, but she was really mad at herself.

I think her game is still not even her 2012 level.. her game a problem.

Really need somebody to help her or talk to her. Those Wcs runs out post Wimbledon, reality might be harsh for her soon.

Hope she can do something on grass.

Also I am under the impression, shes struggling physically? Shes out of breathe and loses power on her strokes after a hour.
