I agree. Laura needs to learn to deal with these situations. During the bathroom break she just sat there looking pensive. She should have got up and moved around, or hit some balls. Anything to keep focused and energised and to keep her muscles warm. It would also have signalled to Naomi on her return that she wasn't bothered.

Laura's not alone in this though. Most players seem to just sit there when their opponent goes off for a long bathroom break. I've never really understood that.

Re the ball toss, I agree with guichard that it didn't seem that bad. It was certainly improved out of sight from earlier this year.

I only watched the third set, Laura's ball toss didn't seem that bad.

There's a decent amount of 25k-50k US tournaments from then right up until the end of November.. Not sure how long Laura will play but I would hope until at least the end of October.

I'm not pissed at Naomi as she's a fighter and I get that. Could have done without the drinking in the middle of the game but hey, I still like her. As for Laurs I think a set away from the second round is better than we could have hoped for, and it looks like she's back.

50K Atlanta will be interesting though, a step up from Landisville.

It looked like Laura complained to the umpire about the drinking between points so tit for tat.

Apparently Naomi is rooming with Heather. Wonder why they aren't doubles partners?

It was not even that bad in the match though. So I don't see how Broady had "every reason to be exasperated". She just likes to moan and bitch, she's a pro at it. 4-3 was an important game and she made a big fuss and spoke to the umpire and Laura ended up rushing her service game and giving her the break for 5-3. It really threw Laura off and she didn't recover from that.

She knows her battles. She wouldn't dare open her mouth if it was Venus, who has an issue with aborted ball tosses.

Agreed. Top 200 = guaranteed spot in slam qualies.

Atlanta $50k is not for two weeks so Laura needs to rest a little but then try to maintain this form and frame of mind. Don't want her to revert to pre-Landisville now the US Open is done.

Getting back into the Top 200 should be the goal for the end of season.

Get the ranking in the Top 160s/150. And set herself up for the Australian Open 2017. If she remains healthy and keeps the motivation going, there's no doubt she'll be back in Top 100 by this time next year.

Hopefully rankings will look a lot different then too, with certain others fading back to obscurity.

She's 224 in the live rankings. She has virtually no points to defend for the rest of the year, so I think ending the year in the top 150 is a reasonable goal.

I posted in the match thread about it as well, but yeah. She came close and encouraging signs still. The fact she qualified and played a great 1st set today is nice. Onwards and upwards. I just PRAY that she keeps this confidence and form up and doesn't slump again because of this tough loss...

We believe in you Laura proud of you.
I don't think she will. Laura must surely know that winning 3 qualifying matches against decent players and losing in a fairly tight 3-sstter against a tricky player ranked 150 places above her is quite an achievement and represents a huge leap in form from just a few weeks ago. I think she will take a lot of confidence from this and build on it over the coming months.
