Re: Lizette Cabrera - FilAus Goddess

If Liz wins on Tuesday, she essentially defends her Tweed Heards points from last year (50pts v 48pts) which will be dropping off in a week, followed by her Brisbane 50pts the week after.

100 pts to defend, so a win in MD would do the ranking wonders.

Since the clay season ended, she's gotten at least one win at every WTA/GS event besides Birmingham.

Re: Lizette Cabrera - FilAus Goddess

Totally agree that playing the WTA events is better for her, I think if she was to come home and try replicate last years ITF results she might crumble under that pressure, whereas over in Asia playing WTA I don't think she'll think about it as much and hopefully be able to have a good run somewhere, and at the very least get more good practice at WTA level. Can always go back to ITF and start again if it doesn't work out

Good win over Arantxa!

Well said, chingching. Exactly right.

One concern is the number of tournaments she's playing. Does she have time
for serious coaching blocks, to address the weaknesses in her game?

Re: Lizette Cabrera - FilAus Goddess

She should play the WTA events to get experience while she still can. Whether she's ranked 150 or 250 won't really make much difference for the Australian swing, as she will need wild cards everywhere regardless for MD and she will still get many QWCs if she's ranked almost Top 200. She also will have plenty of Australian ITFs to play after AO if her ranking has fallen. She's not going to improve if she just beats scrubs ranked in the 400s, she should take advantage of the opportunity presented by her ranking and then if her ranking falls, adjust her schedule.

I thought she'd atleast play the Brisbane ITF instead of Tashkent....

Very impressive for a 1997 girl. Naiktha has a rival.
