Re: Ashleigh Barty

Winning one match is not a bad effort given her ranking and lack of regular match play over the past couple of years. Kind of predictable that GM was going to jump on top of her now that she didn't qualify for the MD

And today she probably just turned her year around.
I'm really sad Ash couldn't qualify but happy that it was Luksika who won against her, she really needed some wins.

From *4-5 in the second set Kumkhum won 5 straight game to go 6-3 4-6 0-4. Barty had 3 break points on the first game of the third set but couldn't convert...

Oh well it was a good start ...

May be because she started low key and is working hard this time around.

TennisInsight.com - MATCH PREVIEW - Ashleigh Barty v Luksika Kumkhum

Ash - $1.188
Kumkhum - $5.697

Very high odds for Ash against a player ranked 167. I haven't seen her odds that high ever against such a player. Bookies are more confident in her than I am.

Good luck anyway

binky-GOAT Wow great article. She's really determined this time. Surprised at comments that she was just cruising before, although she did look casual in practice sessions.

Soler-Espinosa actually reached R2 in Wimbledon four times in a row and beat some semi decent players. But I agree Barty should really be able to advance with this draw if she's able to maintain the good form.
