Re: 2012 USTA National Championships (San Diego, CA) | August 05-12

^ Agreed. Never saw her play, but I've looked into her career a lot and Jessica could have had a nice career, maybe a late bloomer like Bethanie Mattek. Hate it when injuries mess with a player like that

Also, shocking to see names like Ashley Weinhold, Lauren Albanese, and Gail Brodsky on the list of champions... no offense to them (I personally think Lauren and Gail have untapped potential), but American junior tennis had to have seriously been at a low point for them to have won. 2009-2012 have all had superbly strong fields and the champions all were very worthy (verdict is still out on Duval... wish I could have seen her play against someone other than Clijsters to get a better sense for her game). Rogers could breakthrough next year... she's had a great 2012.

Well for that matter Allie might just get overpowered too at NY Maybe Sam might have stood a chance with her size and firepower to compete at the highest level..

Allie and Sam ARE both going to NY anyway, GL to both

At G16, Kim pretty much overpowered to the win. Katerina couldn't handle Kim's aggressive drives, and if she came up to the net, got passed brilliantly by Kim. Even Katerina's drop shots were too short, and when it did work, Kim recovered and passed.

And Kim surely showed the best mental fortitude, especially during the G16 DBLS final. Unlike Hardebeck, McPhillips, Austin or Kiick, Yee/Gould's opponents, Smith/Sneed didn't shrink from pressure and fought to the end, that team was actually leading 5-2 in the 3rd.

Then Kim's Serena-esque performances.. SO many clutch plays
Thanks for your updates

Shoparound, you don't have to reveal your identity if you don't want to, but what is your connection to the USTA? Are you a player, coach, or faculty member? You can PM me if you'd rather, or just ignore this. I'm only curious.

This year she beat Townsend and won the ISC, so
I did in fact see her earlier this summer in Raleigh.

And Duval also just demolished Townsend dropping only three games.

^ I feel like before her injury Duval was on track to be our best junior. I would say she is a better player than Kiick from what I have seen.

Vicky Way to go!!! I think it's safe to say she is back on track after what I think was an injury kept her from playing until May of this year. Hope she gets a decent draw at the Open!

Allie A QWC (which the runner up usually gets, right?) is probably better for her (and most of the girls in this tournament) anyways.

The final will be between Duval and Kiick! Great opportunity for both girls. Thin both of them have a lot of potential.
