Btw, I wonder if Melbourne based Katherine Westbury will get a QWC? I think she took a set of Hradecka this year in qualies. But I think she's retired too (aside from random AMT and ATPL appearances in Oz).

Re: Sacha Jones

^Yeah that's what I think too. Karl is a great tournament director with excellent vision (eg. the Konjuh deal) but he would see giving one to Sacha as a waste especially if Sacha played under the Australian flag, as she wouldn't even draw the average Kiwi fans.

Re: Sacha Jones

Karl is an amazing tournament director. Unfortunately, I think that works against Sacha, as from both a marketing and "looking to the future" view, it is stupid to give her a WC, even a QWC. She has had enough opportunities.

Re: Sacha Jones

Congrats Sacha! Thanks Tess, I forgot about the doubles final

She and Rosie should be a good combo Also I thought about her getting the QWC anyway too, but I don't think it will happen because Karl, is pretty conservative with WC's, even the Q's. A WC to Sacha wouldn't really benefit the tournament but I would be happy with her getting one.

Re: Sacha Jones

It's not like they have anyone else to give WC's to. Hope she plays and sparks her passion back!

Tess Her and Cheng won the dubs final easily but so believe she gets main draw dubs wc!! So based on that fact might get singles quallie wc too for hit out.

Re: Sacha Jones

Won her semi 6-1 6-1 but lost in the final to Cheng 5-7 0-6

I doubt she'll get a QWC anyway, so this is probably it for her, unless she decides to play next year

Re: Sacha Jones

Sacha beats Caitlin Ward 6-3 6-2, into the semis Plays Carswell who won against Harvey in 3. Should be simple for Sacha.

Cheng struggled by Paripovich Glad she beat her at least but tbh she should be beating Nina a bit easier than that. Beattie destroyed Alter 0 and 0. Alter is supposed to be decent (by NZ standards) iirc so Beattie could be a challenge for Sacha, if she beats Cheng.

(1) Sacha Jones vs Joanna Carswell
(2) Leela Beattie vs (3) Rosie Cheng

Re: Sacha Jones

Won her first round 6-0 6-0 against Sarah Knighton so into the QF. Doubt this Knighton girl has much game at all but it's a very good sign that Sacha won without dropping a game, seamlessly slotted back into professional tennis Btw she is actually top seed despite being retired

Draw is now:

(1) Sacha Jones vs Caitlin Ward
(4) Ashley Harvey vs Joanna Craswell
(3) Rosie Cheng vs (5) Nina Paripovich
(2) Leela Beattie vs (6) Lauren Alter

Sacha shouldn't have any trouble until the final, where she'll probably play Cheng. Sacha should be able to handle Cheng as well, as Cheng's form is pretty nonexistent at the moment. So hopefully a QWC for Sacha, but we'll see!

Re: Sacha Jones

^Got it one probs

She is playing the NZ Nationals again, and considering she is 3rd seed with retiree Leela Beattie the top seed, and totally out of form Rosie Cheng the 2nd seed, she really could win.

Winning would give her a QWC to the ASB Classic.

You won't hear from her again.
Maybe in a year again when she wins the NZ nationals again
