Re: Rosmalen - Unicef Open 2012

I was expecting Kim to withdraw since her R2 match. And I'm not that worried to be honest, don't know why

Re: Rosmalen - Unicef Open 2012

Probably the best decision but honestly, if Kim cannot get through three relatively easy matches this week without an injury, how will she get deep in the draw at Wimbledon? I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but I just can't see her beating the big names on her worst surface if she's not at 100%...

Re: Rosmalen - Unicef Open 2012

^^ Sam says Kim wanted to play, but her team adviced her not to and go to the hospital to get an examination
That showed she has some fluids around a small injury in her stomach muscles.
"She felt something during warm up and she herself still wanted to play, but we didn't want to take any risks. With this injury she could have played and on a tournament like Wimbledon she wouldn't have given a walk over, but now we have to think about what's still coming up: Wimbledon, Olympics & US Open" says Sam

good decision, thank god Kim finally starts to listen to experts and doesn't keep playing with small injuries in small tournaments

Re: Rosmalen - Unicef Open 2012

She is definitely playing wimby. this is just precautionary. With possible Sunday finals (rain) its probably a good outcome that she withdrew and can focus on wimby

only worrisome thing is that if she is fragile enough to overburden her muscles with 3 matches. How can she pull 7 straight. Then again she almost made it to AO final (maybe even title) with a completely broken body. So I am very hopeful

Filip Dewulf said she played with a special patch to keep the muscle warm yesterday...
hopefully it's nothing serious and a couple of days of rest will make it better

Re: Rosmalen - Unicef Open 2012

quick translation, hope everything is clear

Injured Kim Clijsters says goodbye at UNICEF Open
Kim Clijsters won’t be playing at the UNICEF Open. The Belgian favourite for the title has a stomach muscle injury. Together with her team and adviced by doctors, she decided not to play her semifinal against Urszula Radwanska.

“Kim is disappointed”, said physical coach Sam Verslegers, at a press conference about the injury. “In the second set against Francesca Schiavone her stomach muscles strated to bother her more. We went to the hospital in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, were they saw an irregular fibre structure. With Wimbledon starting soon, we didn’t want to take many risks.” According to Verslegers there definitely isn’t a muscle tear. “It’s pure overburdening. A couple of days of rest will make it a lot better, maybe even fully heal it. I think that in a couple of days she can play at 100% again.”

Clijsters will travel to Wimbledon this afternoon or tomorrow. On Monday she will play Jelena Jankovic in the first round. “I think she can play at her maximum level.” says Verslegers. Coach Carl Maes was also disappointed but realistic. “This is a decision we made with the team, but it wasn’t a decision we wanted to make. Kim really wanted to play today. This is purely a rational decision.”
Tournament director Marcel Hunze is disappointed by the decision but also has respect for it. “We have had a lot of good news this week, this time it’s very bad news. I feel sorry for Kim and it’s a setback for the tournament. But I think it’s a good decision. She doesn’t want to risk Wimbledon or the Olympics. On the other side: we had a lot of fun with Kim this week.”

article from, where Sam & Carl gave a press conference: (translation in a minute)

Semifinals, excellent. This is exactly what Kim needs--match play. She has to be pleased with how this tournament is going. Now U. Radwanska tomorrow. They're the second semifinal (the first is not before 2:00). Hopefully this is doing loads of good for her confidence.

No, you're not stupid or I am too haha
I felt exactly the same way when I met her last year, but then you have to dare to ask, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Plus Kim is so sweet and nice!

Now on to the semis! Yay!
