So Petra and her coach are no longer working together. Get Kozya back now! It was the biggest mistake of her career

Quote:
"When I needed a point, she played her best tennis," Keys said of her bronze-medal match. "It's one of those where a point here and there could really change it, and unfortunately, I didn't win those today."

As for Kvitova, she was plagued by mono last year, a stomach illness early in 2016 and then an abdominal pull. Still, she is a two-time Wimbledon champ but has not been past the quarterfinals of a major since winning her last one in 2014. This year, she fell in the second round at the All England Club.

But Saturday, Kvitova was nimble and quick, winning 7-of-9 net chances and taking command of the final set. She broke Keys' serve in the first and third games and never looked back.

"I was preparing for the Olympics from the beginning of the season," Kvitova said. "I had so many troubles with injuries and everything. I know I love playing this kind of tournament.

"And playing for the Czech Republic is something always special for me. I just came here to do what I can. I'm so happy. I saved my best tennis for this event."

...

"This means almost everything," the Czech said. "The fact that I have a medal from the Olympics is one of the best things [to] happen in my career. I have my two Wimbledon titles, Fed Cup and WTA [Finals]. It's definitely one of the best days today, so I hope I'm going to celebrate it. And I'm very proud I could bring it to the Czech Republic.

"Unfortunately, I didn't win the gold medal, but to have a bronze, it's great. It's different [than Wimbledon]. ... It's something special."

CO: The Men’s Legends Event is coming back to town in New Haven, with Andy Roddick, John McEnroe James Blake and Mardy Fish. If you could take either of these players as a mixed doubles partner, who would it be and why?

PK: Hmmm maybe John McEnroe because we could both serve and volley, we're both lefties and would win it at the net! Haha!
Good. The seed is in her mind now.

Wimbledon: Two-time champion Petra Kvitova beaten by Ekaterina Makarova

Quote:
Exhausted Petra Kvitova will seek “stability and peace” to exorcise the demons of a frustrating six months that culminated in a second-round defeat at Wimbledon.

The two-time champion slumped out with a protracted, straight-sets loss to Russian Ekaterina Makarova, the 10th seed beaten 7-5 7-6 (7/5).

World number 35 Makarova took the first set on Friday before rain forced the tie into the weekend, but not even the delays could help 2011 and 2014 champion Kvitova find her Wimbledon groove.

Kvitova has now reached the second week in a slam just twice in the last eight major tournaments, and admitted to battling to adjust to life with new coach Frantisek Cermak, while she also recently said she had split from her fiance.

“In the last couple of months a lot of things happened in my life, it’s a lot of changes, I just have to get used to all that,” said Kvitova, who parted ways with long-term coach David Kotyza in January.

“I made a decision which I still believe is right. The challenge is still up and down but the ups are not as great as maybe the last year or years before.

“But I still believe the ups will come. I still need to be more confident on court but I’m not finished with tennis. I’m still young, I want to get back to the top again.

“I had been with David (Kotyza) for seven years; it’s something different for me now. I hope I will finally have some stability and peace, because the last six months have been exhausting for me.

“Hopefully everything will get better and be more settled for me. I have got a brilliant team around me who believe in me and I’m grateful for having them.”

Makarova’s victory tees up a third-round battle with Barbara Strycova. Incessant rain delays ensured Kvitova and Makarova were the last women to complete their second-round clash, but the beaten Czech star refused to bemoan the scheduling.

“It’s the same for everyone I have to say,” said Kvitova, of the weather problems. “I’m hoping that the Olympic Games will be better for me. Tennis is beautiful but at the same time it can be awful.

“Here it was very painful but then two weeks later I will be concentrating on Montreal and the Olympics. So I will sleep it off.”

looks like Petra is 2nd on Court 2 tomorrow...and it's slated to rain AGAIN in the afternoon

even if she somehow wins tomorrow...she would still have to play the 3rd and 4th round consecutively...w/ no rest days in between and a fragile state of mind...you just wonder whether she has it in her to do all of that

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has added jewelry brand ALO diamonds to her endorsement portfolio.

It’s the second lifestyle deal for the 26-year-old Czech, who signed a multi-year agreement with Beverly Hills, California-based watchmaker Ritmo Mundo last year.

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

pretty interesting article...but at the same time, not quite sure what to make of it

on one hand, Petra says that she's working on all these new things in her game and that the results will come eventually, kind of insinuating that this season will indeed be a transition year...but on the other hand, she says now that she's getting older...she feels more urgent in accomplishing things w/ the time she has left

she also implied that her game was in a rut w/ Kotyza and that she wasn't feeling motivated or passionate

i mean...idk...this is all very reminiscent of that time Petra said she was aiming to be no. 1 in the world...but then she was still as inconsistent as ever...and TBH, the tactical and technical holes in her game and her mentality on the court when she was w/ Kotyza still look the same to me now

it's good that she's trying to incorporate more net play and variety on a regular basis...but she's never going to truly improve or get the results that she needs if she doesn't fix the blatant holes in her game which have been more evident than ever this season

i will say that the one constant this season has been Petra's optimism...she continues to sound very calm and hopeful that she's doing all the right things and that it's just a matter of time before she gets the results...hope for her sake that she's right

WTA Insider Notebook

Quote:
Wimbledon is a special place for Petra Kvitova. She explains:

If you ask any other tennis player what they want to win it's always Wimbledon. So it was the same with me when I was a kid. I didn't really expect to win it twice already which is like the dream really came true. It's really special. Wimbledon for me is a real historic place and you just feel it from the moment you just went to the area. It's great feelings.
Quote:
Kvitova on who the favorite is to win the title:

It's Serena. [laughs] Well definitely it is. Of course she is the biggest favorite and she has the best game to win it here.
Quote:
Kvitova on the effect of Serena losing the last two Slam finals:

I don't think that it's, like, the biggest problem on the tour [laughs]. I just think that she will find the way she's gonna win another final someday. It's just how it is. I think that if someone is playing Serena in a final they feel like they don't really have something to lose. Serena is always the favorite and I think it's a little bit more relaxed from the opponent.
Quote:
Kvitova on whether she feels the bullseye on her back at Wimbledon:

I think it's tough because of course for me I should be kind of confident on the grass which I am to play on the grass I know how well I can play on it. But I think the other girls want to play a little better and they want to beat me especially here because they know what happened here. But you can look at it from both sides. But I think the opponents are playing less with pressure.
Quote:
Kvitova on her best performances at Wimbledon:

I have probably two. When I beat Venus in 2014 in the third round which I felt that she was better player on the court in the first two sets and I was able somehow to win it. And then definitely in the final against Bouchard.
