Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

OUT of Wuhan also!
I highly doubt it that she will travel to Asia for Beijing only, will be tough to defend some points in Linz then where she reached the final last year, if she will be able to play there at all, hope she will add some smaller tournaments to her schedule after Lux, worst case would be if she is not able to play any further tournaments this year.
According to her website (last blog from today) she is still in Regensburg and gets treatments there for her shoulder.

Tennis WTA-Tour: Friedsam freut sich auf Luxemburg

10. September 2016

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

OUT of Quebec!
Not sure if she will travel to Asia or if she just tries to get ready for Linz/Lux now, would be really disapppinting and tough for her if she couldn´t play again in 2016, I hope that they can fix those shoulder issues as soon as possible, it´s a shame that she hasn´t been able to play a full schedule over the last years, fit and confident ALF obviously belongs to the top 50 but now she will probably drop again in the rankings soon, really unfortunate!

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

on ES they said that ALF still was only able to play with pain killers, commentator sounded quite negative actually, like it could be even the end of the season for ALF, I hope that´s not the case but bad sign obviously that her shoulder is still not good.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Vinci def. ALF 62 64

Hopefully she can again have better results in the last part of the season.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

lost 26 46
as expected unfortunately, 35 UEs in the end, 2nd set was better but she got nervous again at 4-4, wasting a 30-0 lead on her serve with stupid errors, typical ALF, she has work on her mental strength for sure but most important for her is to avoid longer injury breaks in future, it´s just tough for her to find her rhythm again.
Good that she is playing some doubles here also and then hopefully a good draw in Quebec...

US Open

(7)Vinci (ITA) v Friedsam (GER)
McHale (USA) v Barthel (GER)
Putintseva (KAZ) v Lisicki (GER)
(30)Doi (JPN) v Witthöft (GER)
So many German players in this part of the draw

Not sure about Anna-Lena`s form. She must play her best to beat Vinci

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Well, actually not a bad draw as Vinci is not in great shape at all this year and ALF beat her in Melbourne already but I do think that ALF is just not ready yet after her injury, she usually needs some more matches to get back into a normal rhythm and I expect her to hit tons of UEs and then Vinci´s gamestyle will be a nightmare.
But who knows, maybe she can surprise me and somehow play on a decent level again, then she will have her chances against Vinci and also against Barthel/McHale in 2nd round.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

Depends on ALF if she wins or loses that since Vincis form is pretty poor. Actually quite a good chance to go deeper in a slam.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

lost 06 26!
I hoped for a closer scoreline but no chance here after her injury break, ALF is a sensitive player and she just needs some more matches to get her rhythm again, that´s nothing new, we can only hope that she will stay healthy for most of the time in future and that it doesn´t need too much time now fo her to get back into "normal" shape.
Start of 2nd set was a bit better but then again she lost 4 games in a row, no chance on return also, tough to imagine that she is able to win a match in NY also but we´ll see, as I said, similar situation as in 2015 but there she had a strong end of the season, hopefully it will be similar now also.

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

New Haven

(3)Friedsam v Tsurenko
Buyukakcay v (wc)Kenin
Chirico v Davis
Cirstea v (12)Zheng

Good to see that ALF is back, important for her to get some matches before NY, I hope that she is at 100% again!
Draw is ok but I don't expect much here obviously as ALF did not play since Wimbledon but maybe she can play on a decent level here, good luck!!

New CHR of 45 this week btw, that´s great, she will have to defend many points later this year but she slowly is getting more consistent, now she only has to stay healthy throughout a whole season for a change...

Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

and OUT of Cincinnati now also...really unlucky with injuries, that´s just as bad again as last summer
Jul 16th, 2016 01:36 PM
Re: Anna-Lena Friedsam

She never entered Montreal or Florianapolis/Nanchang, so she wanted to take some longer break anyway but obviously unlucky that she also can´t play Bastad now.
She often has problems with her shoulder, so hopefully it won´t get worse.
I guess she plans to play Cinci Q and then New Haven Q before the US Open, not the ideal preparation for her but she is used to such situations unfortunately, good thing is that she will have to play Q in this case, so she can hope for some "easier" opponents, it´s obviously important to get as many matches as possible once she is fit again.
