Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

Is this our official 2012 thread?

Israel def. Netherlands in Fed Cup 2-1

Bibiane Schoofs def. Julia Glushko 6-3, 7-5
Shahar Peer def. Michaella Krajicek 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-1
Peer/Glushko def. Krajicek/Schoofs 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3

They play Portugal next. Good luck Shahar/Julia!!

Shahar lost to Sabine

6-1 6-2

My takeaway from the Australian "campaign" is that nothing significant has changed. Shahar is still being overpowered by a rising number of her competitors and that she will be struggling to maintain her top 50 status for the remainder of 2012

I think Shahar has a got shot against Sabine. I wasn't impressed with her opening round match vs Steph.

Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

Peer d. the weakest player in the draw 6-2 6-0 in 51 minutes.
[Holland got double-bageled by Dokic last week, and the best player she ever beat was probably Glushko (who also beat her for her first 25K title in 2010). I'd be shocked if she ever gets near the top 100.]

The real tournament starts now.

Australian Open 2012

Shahar's AO section:

[14] LISICKI, Sabine GER v [Q] QUALIFIER
PEER, Shahar ISR v [WC] HOLLAND, Isabella AUS
STEPHENS, Sloane USA v SOLER-ESPINOSA, Silvia ESP
SCHEEPERS, Chanelle RSA v [18] KUZNETSOVA, Svetlana RUS

[30] KERBER, Angelique GER v [WC] BOBUSIC, Bojana AUS
DUBOIS, Stephanie CAN v VESNINA, Elena RUS
MINELLA, Mandy LUX v [Q] QUALIFIER
DULKO, Gisela ARG v [4] SHARAPOVA, Maria RUS

Tough R2, but that's what happens when you're unseeded.
If she upsets Lisicki, and that's a big if, she usually does well against Sveta (who might not get there herself), and will probably make it to the second week.

Enough with the almost. If she wants to improve, the satisfaction over "almost" has to be minor.
I agree. Hopefully she can take the decent form and build on it in Melbourne and for the rest of the year.

I haven't had time to watch, but from what I've read currently there's not much of an improvement over last year's decline.
I'd be surprised if she beat Wickmayer.

Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

After missing 3 gp's and getting broken in the opening game of the second set, she seems to be fading fast. She's playing like crap on important points. She needs to never drop shot ever again.

Got creamed 7-1. She got too tentative.

Shahar saved SP with a great 1/2 punch and has taken it to a first set TB.

Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

I fell asleep before the match and had a dream she won 4-6, 1-5 RET. I was stunned to find out she won by retirement but I'm glad she took a set and was making things competitive. Hopefully she's up to the task that is Wickmayer.
