I've got RLA night session tickets for the first four days. You'd think Sam has *got* to be playing in at least one of those sessions.

If she gets knocked out first round in a day match I will cry.

Good to finish the tournament on a positive, and especially given her problems with three set matches at the start of the year, it's nice to see her come back from a deficit in the third. I wish there were streams or highlights for these matches so we could know what was going on, and how seriously we should take the results.
From the sparse comments filtering through I got the feeling that the matches were pretty good and fun to watch, but maybe that's just because the Singapore fans don't generally get to see a lot of tennis. But as Sideropyre said, it's only an exho so we probably shouldn't read anything too much into the results. In any case I think Sam was pretty satisfied at getting a couple of warm-up matches against good players just a couple of weeks before the Aus season starts.

She sure did! TBH so did Flavia, with her two 3-setters and a tight 2-set final. But the one-sidedness of some of the results was weird, you're right. From that perspective it was maybe a pity that Flavia was drawn against Dani in the QF, Dani is usually also good for some great competitive matches.

Very much agreed on both your posts above. Sam should feel good about her results in Singapore. It sounds like Flavia is in good form and Sam should be consoled by that - didn't she beat both Williams sisters a couple of weeks back?

And it's good to see Sam's still in the purple Superhero Sam gear.

That's for sure! And the good thing is that Sam will leave Singapore on a somewhat high note. It would have been a pity if it finished with her loss yesterday.

From then on it was bam-bam-bam Sam all the way! I'd love to get hold of a clip of those last few games.

^Well you got one now at least. Sam reeled off five straight games from 1-4 down in the third set to win her 3rd-place match against Peng. That should give her a nice confidence boost!

Compare Na's matches against Sam in Toronto and the YEC, where Sam already had a match under her belt and Na was coming in cold after a longish break, with their much closer match in Cincy, where Na already had played a match and had a feel for the court. I know there were other factors involved (the Cincy surface was more to Na's liking than Toronto, and her confidence was shot to pieces by the YEC), but it was generally agreed that the cold start in both cases hurt her. Usually the players who get a bye are good enough to get past their lower ranked first opponents even when they're not at their best, so upsets aren't all that common, but when the difference in level is smaller (like Sam vs Flavia) the bye can make the crucial difference.
Yes, the YEC match with Sam and Na was tragic really. The only reason she got a game was because Sam got spooked by that wonky serve. Well let's hope Sam doesn't get too many byes during the Aussie summer. I've got tickets for Sydney now and I want to see her win some matches before Melbourne, dammit!

Yeah - I thought Sam would finally turn things round with Pennetta but it was not to be. A few people on twitter said that it was a brilliant match and money well spent. So that's good to hear.
