Re: Caroline Garcia

lost 1-6 6-4 2-6

Well, that was not good to see, brainless tennis, no fire, poor fighting in set 1. She reacted in set 2 with great serve, then lost the momentum despite having 2 bps at 1-0* in the third.
at 2-2 she got back to her poor tennis again, lost focus, spreading errors left and right
it was sad to see cause she shouldn't be losing to that girl so badly in set 1 and 3. Sometimes it was like she was refusing the fight. That was very weird.
she has only 1 set of quality tennis for now, not enough to make her win those kind of tight matchs.

Must change that and quickly.

Re: Caroline Garcia

I was hoping for Slava but nevermind.

Puig is a test indeed, but one i expect Caro to pass.

Re: Caroline Garcia

Fairly comfortable vs an out of form player. A good start

nazzac Won 3&3 again Larsson.

Fairly straight forward match here. Caro didnt get broken once which is nice.

Tougher matches await however

Re: Caroline Garcia

Kiki and Caro will play doubles together in Dubai also. They still like each other despite the 'drama' last week?

Re: Caroline Garcia

If she wins she will play either Puig or Shvedova in round two. Out of form Kerber then possible for round three.

Allez Caro!!

Caro is first up on centre court vs Johanna Larsson tomorrow in Dubai. Losing to Miffed Max's fav would be unacceptable

Then again it must be said: if this is as good as it gets (and it's becoming fairly obvious that it is indeed so), then now I can say I sort of know what it feels like to have say Vesnina as one's main fave.

And if I wanted to feel like that, I would have become a fan of Vesnina (or some other midranked scrub).
I still live in hope that she will eventually get her shit together and become the player she can be. She is still only young and i can't consider her a failure at 23 years of age. She still has plenty of time i feel.

This will not be the best we see of her for sure, i am confident she will at least break top 20 at some point in her career.

This year though feels like a weird one. We are close to two months in and i don't have any indication on how it will go. At this stage last year i remember feeling confident that she will at least match 2015 and most likely improve on it. This year i don't feel anything, it could go either way for her. I can easily see her slumping, making top 20 or just staying the same.

A lot happened in 2016 to her. It is quite easy to forget just how busy her year actually was for a player ranked 25. She had to deal with all that abuse over the Begu incident, the Olympics fiasco, the suspension, the death of that guy whose name escapes me and the way she lost in the Fed Cup. But she had some positives like winning 2 titles, she seemed to embrace Roland Garros more, got a career high ranking, and was part of the best doubles team in 2016.

This year has started with injury, the Fed Cup backlash and we still don't know where that will lead into the year. She should be coming more equipped to deal with these issues and mature as a player as a result. At least i am hoping so.

Re: Caroline Garcia

I see zero correlation between Fed Cup "heroics" and improved performance at Tour level. The Fed Cup is actually a distraction that some players overcome better than others.

If you think that it's a player's patriotic duty to play Fed Cup whenever required/called to do so, then fine, yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man [/The Dude]. But don't single out for bashing a player you're (supposedly) a fan of when tons of others do the exact same.

CLASS DISMISSED.

Re: Caroline Garcia

In all honestly, I don't think skipping Fed Cup will change a thing for her. She has played in the past and performed well in Fed Cup, but then she goes back to being the same old Caroline when back on tour duty. There is no evidence of Fed Cup improving her tour results.

However, I do feel there is more to this decision than meets the eye. It might be a simple case of them thinking they need to reduce the schedule, but I don't buy it.

Is Dad jealous of the success she had and that it wasn't down to him? Is it something to do with Amelie leaving and Noah taking over? Is it down to the suspension last year and the whole Olympics fiasco? Did the final result hurt her so much she didn't want to play it anymore?

They will not say in public, so I take interviews with a pinch of salt.

The loss is not a bad one by any means. Pliskova is in good form and she is number 3 in the world for a reason. At the moment she is a better player than Caroline.

We will see how she does in Dubai

Instead of bitching for the 72347523405th time about this particular TFer posting the same inane shit in here for the 7234523565th time, I used the Ignore feature. Much better now.

This being said, for some reason my expectations w/r/t Garcia remain unreasonably high, because like other people I couldn't help regarding this latest loss as "a setback", even though considering the rankings, current form and career accomplishments of both it was totally expected.

Well this information doesnt surprise me but I tend to think that you get what you deserve

Caroline is responsible of all that situation too. The loss against pliskova was also very predictable too. 2 Young players 2 different trajectories.
Pliskova is getting UP, she's n°3 now and is working with former petra kvitova coach. She knows what she's doing and work the right way for it.

Caroline is coming here with a loss against Minella, probably watched this fed cup week end fiasco, heard about all the medias attacks and fans
but the worse part is she's still working the same with dad, for 6 years now and she's only ranked 24.
Dubai SF points are coming too, she'll have to defend them with no confidence, nor real pleasure to fight
Fed cup is not only playing for your country, Fed Cup is very serious preparation she benefits, a good way to be fit and ready to play big.
I knew there wont be any "miracle" there cause the one and only problem of Caroline Garcia is herself and her dad. She refuses to play fed cup we saw how better player she is now ...

Yes Caroline father is the one who prevent her to become somene big but she accepts it and we cant do nothing for her.

YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE.
