Chakvetadze

Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) def. Victoria Azarenka (BLR)
6-2 7-5

In what was expected an anticipated Final between the Russian and Belarusian, the first Set did not disappoint with predictions that the young Victoria Azarenka would be lifting the trophy, however coming into the first Set at 5-5, Azarenka seemed to flake becoming nervous and timid. Her shots seemed to bounce everywhere, with Anna Chakvetadze, getting the break and keeping her serve to take the first Set. Unfortunately, the Second Set was a different story. Chakvetadze seemed to gain confidence while Azarenka, made shocking unforced error after error!! Azarenka was graceful in her defeat, and had some good words for the woman who took the title away from the grasps of her hands!! Anna flooded into tears thanking Vika and all of her fans around the world for their support. She also advanced through to the stadium to give her Coach Beesley an emotional hug. They have worked hard for this special day to come!! Congratulations to Anna Chakvetadze who is our Australian Open champion, and a Grand Slam Champion!! Anna could find herself as the ART Tours No.1 player, but that is still unknown until the rankings come out tommorow!! Congratulations Anna and bad luck Vika who has come Runner-Up in two staright Finals now!! I am sure she will learn from this however!!

Chakvetadze and Cibulkova

Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) and Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) def. Ashley Harkleroad (USA) and Gisela Dulko (ARG)
7-6(2) 6-0

They have been near perfect all week, not dropping in a set in all of their matches and today Dominika Cibulkova and Anna Chakvetadze win again here in the finals of Melbourne. Today they were tested the most in their match, Ashley and Gisela pushing them all the way in the first set and ven had a set point at 6-5 40-30 but it was not to be and Dominika and Anna played a flawless second set to lift the trophys at the end of the day. They should find themselves being the world number 1's in doubles when the rankings are revealed later, a thouroughly deserved title and a cracking final performence. Unlucky for Ash and Gisela who have played a great tournament and will be happy with their peformences all week. Anna and Dominika now move ahead to Dubai and Stockholm where they will play different events in hope to carry on their doubles success.

Harkleroad and Dulko

Ashley Harkleroad (USA) and Gisela Dulko (ARG) def. Sam Stosur (AUS) and Nadia Petrova (RUS)
6-1 1-6 6-4

Any chances of seeing an Australian in the finals today have been dismissed by the hands of the Team Americas pair Ashley Harkleroad and Gisela Dulko. Their partnership has been solid now for 3 weeks and really look as though they can qualify together for Istanbul already at the end of season 1. Both players moved incredibly well today and hit heavy groundstrokes, not allowing their opponents to play their game. Sam and Nadia hit back strong in the second set but they could not sustain their form and just fell short in a three set thriller to begin the day here on Rod Laver Arena.

Chakvetadze and Cibulkova

Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) and Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) Defeated. Alona Bondarenko (UKR) and Kimiko Date-Krumm (JPN)
6-2 6-2

Anna and Dominika carried on their dominant form with an outstanding 6-2 6-2 victory!! It was clear that from the start Dominika and Anna weren't leaving the arena until they knew that they were going through to the Finals of Doubles!! Alona and Kimiko tried their best to outlast the unstoppable duo, however today it wasn't enough!! Dominka Cibulkova and Anna Chakvetadze have now made back to back Doubles Finals, can they get back to back wins?
