It's being in the top 8 you really get the benefits of being a seed imo. You can actually argue at times it's a disadvantage being in the #13-#16 bracket, because depending on who is in the top 4, it guarantees to set you up against them.

So she can avoid the top four before the quarterfinals of the premier events and the slams.

I'm curious if Vika will play more than just the mandatory events during the clay season. I'd like her to play one of the smaller tournaments.

Re: Ranks

Do we know who else is entered in Acapulco and Monterrey? I agree that those two plus Indian Wells and Miami is too much tennis but I'm guessing Monterrey is in there in case she loses early in Acapulco. But I do like how she's planning on taking advantage of the spring hard court swing before the clay hits where it'll be harder to continue getting her rhythm back.

Re: Ranks

If she can do well at Acapulco and Monterrey I'll be happy actually but those two in a row followed by IW and Miami doesn't seem very wise so wouldn't mind if she withdrew from Monterrey.

She needs to stay fit and healthy though, which for Vika is easier said than done

The real test for her now is playing Acapulco and Monterrey back-to-back, if she can do that and still be healthy then I will have faith in her to improve her ranking and have a good season.

Re: Ranks

Vika's upcoming North American Tour as well as we know at the moment:

Fed Cup (World Group II 1st Round, Quebec City, 6-7 February)
Abierto Mexicano Telcel (Acapulco, 22-27 February)
Abierto Monterrey Afirme (Monterrey, 29 February – 6 March)
BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells, 9-20 March)
Miami Open (Miami, 22 March - 3 April).

As we know Vika won't defend her Doha final ranking points (305) from last year. If she plays well in those Mexican tournaments, in theory maximum points from Acapulco and Monterrey could be 280 + 280 = 560. But one match and one tournament at a time...

Re: Ranks

I read somewhere on here that Sucketta is still speculating playing the Olympics. She probably also enjoys the career high/weeks in top ten for her legacy.

Even though she was incredible at the AO and won all those titles last year, Carebear being number two is a bit strange. There's such a drop after Reehanna.

The only real points Vika has to defend for the rest of the year are Doha final and Wimbledon and US Open quarterfinals. Plenty of opportunity to gain.

Re: Ranks

I don't know why Flavia can't just request to have her name pulled from the rankings.

Aside from Doha, Vika can gain a lot of points in the next few months if she stays healthy.

Re: Ranks

Carla at 8.

Since Pennetta is a ranking ghost, Vika is actually 13.
