Re: Aussies in WTA events

Well what a fucking amazing week on WTA tour... and it's not over yet. It's Saturday and we STILL have players in all three tournaments: Daria in dubs final in Tokyo, Mon/Storm dubs final in "Canton" and Pri with dubs SF in Seoul.

Pri and Lizette's weeks were absolutely stellar. Not much more to say there that hasn't been said elsewhere.

One little thing I loved this week is how Liv T scored like a full week of WTA accom/hospitality in Seoul She won a measly two games in Q1 qualies last Saturday but then didn't have dubs R1 til Wednesday, won that and had another day break before her QF yesterday! Pretty sweet deal for a player ranked in 400s in singles and 200s in doubles!

Glad to see Nastya in singles this week. She would've got DE into Tokyo qualies last week if she had've entered and it was a weak ass draw. Could've easily won a match Probs has a chance against Fangzhou Liu today, no?

Nastya would be #1rank at checking in - who can blame her?

I wouldn't expect much from Lizette in Uzbekistan, girls from wealthier countries don't tend to perform well there unless they've played in Tashkent or some of the Uzbek 25Ks before. It's more an eye opening experience for first time visitors Kontaveit and Kania had some interesting words after their singular visit, and over the years some interesting photos have emerged of the facilities there

Tashkent

Liz
QR1 vs Grammatikopolou
and a possible FQR vs. Bogdan.

Challenging Q draw but hopefully she brings confidence from the Kontaveit match and Rodina second set.

I'm not sure who is coaching her at the moment but ITF have it listed as Brett Hunter. I guess it is frequently updated as I saw a few months ago it did still say Anthony.

Re: Aussies in WTA events

I think she is sharing a coach (Brett Hunter) with Lizette. I doubt he goes overseas much so I think both have been travelling alone quite a bit this year. Didn't see any coach in Lizette's support camp this week in Guangzhou, only Monique and Storm were there supporting her.

Anyway, Mon and Storm have reached yet another final While Hon got a w/o in her doubles QF but LivT lost her QF

She also said that she likes travelling alone on the circuit,
not being told what to do, ad having to figure out how to win each match.

Doesn't sound like she has much time for her `assigned coach'.

Seems to be working though

She was more happy than Hogenkamp at the end of the match

She said in the interviews that I posted in the thread that she just wants to go out there and enjoy it and have fun all the time, not like the girls who always look depressed on court

Re: Aussies in WTA events

Pri lost 36 46

Decent match for her, 22 Winners, 23 UE. Hit more winners and less UE than Hogenkamp actually

Played quite badly in the first couple of games (due to nerves), but when she settled in she was really hitting some amazing shots.

Maybe let the 2nd set get away from her a bit after being 3-1 up, but good week nonetheless

Hon lost to Hogenkamp 36 46

It was actually much closer than the score suggests. 57pts won vs. 63pts.

Excellent week for Pri! Hopefully she builds on it next week in Brissy and then if sneaks into Hong Kong!
