Re: Aleksandra Krunic

Aleks won again today.

That was her 8th win in a row. And it is a big one too. It takes her back into the top 100 for the 1st time since 2015. It also puts Aleks in the semifinals of the Manchester 100k on grass after having won the Bol 125k on clay last week.

I think Aleks has finally got her game back now.

Yes, I did. Manchester is being shown by various livefeed sites.

Nothing dramatic happened. No injuries or anything like that. I think at 7-5 3-0, Marina might have taken her foot of the peddle a little bit and Aleks stayed very focused. Aleks ended up with an easy service game, and then followed that up with a couple of great points on return and from there Aleks just grew in confidence and Marina level dipped a bit too. Overall, I say both started the match very well and during the 1st five games both had chances on the other's serve but both were clutched when they need to be. In the 12th game Aleks just lost a bit of concentration for a minute and that was all that was needed for Marina to win the 1st set.

From 3-0 down in the 2nd, Aleks' game grew in confidence and there was a period in that set where she couldn't do anything wrong. Marina's level dipped too. During some games the level it fell was small and it was mostly due Aleks playing superbly that Aleks broke. But there were also a couple of games where Marina would produce a few bad points in a bunch. But from 3-0 Aleks stayed very focused, gave nothing away and when she went for a big shot everything fell in. Basically, Marina just lost a little concentration at 3-0 and that was all Aleks needed to get on a roll. Sometimes players go into a zone where everything they do works and despite this they hardly make any errors either and that was Aleks as the 2nd set wore on. I think at a certain point as Aleks started running away with the set, Marina got a little fed up and discouraged and towards the end of the set she didn't fight as much as she needed to. Be the start of the 3rd set Marina refocused but Aleks continued to play very well also. Then in the 5th of the 3rd set, Aleks hit a couple of great returns and Marina capitulated from there.

I'm very pleased with Aleks' performance. Aleks' isn't noted for her focus and consistency a lot, but I think all the matches and the confidence she gained from these has put Aleks' in a winning state of mind. She is playing with a lot of believe. When she believes she can make a shot she goes for it and mostly she nails it. At other times she was willing to rally and she played with the confidence that the longer a point went the greater was the chance she would win it, so during the longer points in the last two sets, Aleks defended very well, and she showed the belief that she could bind her time until she saw an opening. Marina couldn't get a lot of winners against Aleks and I think that led to Marina losing some discipline.

Have to say, I was delighted with the calm, focused but determined attitude Aleks brought to the court the last couple of sets. The way Aleks is playing now I am pretty confidence she can win a few more matches here and it wouldn't surprise me if Aleks went on winning while she was playing in this tournament.

Re: Aleksandra Krunic

Aleks pulled off an amazing comeback win in her 1st grass court match of the year. She beat Marina Erakovic, who was almost certainly the toughest and most accomplished on grass of all the unseeded players in the draw, 5-7 6-3 6-2. Marina led 7-5 3-0 and frankly at that point I would have given Aleks virtually no chance of winning this match if I am entirely honest. It wasn't as if Aleks was playing poorly but Marina was looking very sharp also and she had yet to drop her serve at the point. But from 3-0 down in the 2nd Aleks hit a purple patch and she could do very little wrong for the rest of the match. She played magnificently.

With this very tough opening round behind her Aleks now has a good shot at having another very good week here in Manchester.

Oh and for the record... that is now 6 wins in a row and counting.

There are livefeeds from Bol. Her match against Alexandra Cadantu will be available on livefeeds tomorrow as have her previous matches this week.

Re: Aleksandra Krunic

Aleks is in the final of the Bols 125k. She had a great win today over Beatriz Haddad-Maia. Haddad-Maia has been playing very well and today Aleks played the best as I have seem in some time to produce a very convincing result. It means a lot of ranking points for Aleks, 95 so far and if she can win tomorrow she will earn a total of 160 points. That will put her back on the edge of the top 100 at 101.

Her opponent tomorrow is Alexandra Cadantu. Alexandra has been slumping outside the top 200 for 2 and a half years now. She has been playing a lot better this week and beat the number 2 seed in the semis. But still...this is a very winnable final for Aleks and I am not only confident can Aleks win this match tomorrow, I believe Aleks will win this match and this tournament tomorrow.
