Re: Richel Hogenkamp

In short
Richel is recovered from her wrist injury.
Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Richel decided to stay with her mom and trained much more. Here mother had surgery and is stable right now. More research is needed but the situation is good enough that Richel decided to play again.

Oh, wow. Sad to hear.
Then I was wrong to link it to the Haarhuis situation...

Hopefully she'll pick up her good form soon

Actually, where is she?
She was not amused by Haarhuis' decision, but she hasn't played since AOQ.

Looks like she's proven Haarhuis' point by now...

I'm not that surprised by Haarhuis' decision, but I think both could have handled things better by talking to eachother instead of talking to the media

Re: Richel Hogenkamp

I don't think this was the best decision of Haarhuis. All right, Hogenkamp has been injured and she hasn't been able to play a lot lately, but I can't erase that Kuznetsova match of last year out of my head. Hogenkamp does bring variety in the Dutch Fed Cup team, because Bertens and Rus (because I think they are going to play singles) rely so much on power that an off-day can really screw things up. Because Hogenkamp relies on her speed and perseverance (she doesn't have a lot of power), I think she would be a clever choice.

But it is still weird that she reacts in the media, without contacting Haarhuis. Because she's doing exactly what Haarhuis did: not communicating face-to-face (or voice-to-voice in case of a phonecall).

Hogenkamp haalt uit naar Fed Cup-captain Haarhuis | NU - Het laatste nieuws het eerst op NU.nl

She may have a point, but in fact I think her reaction is unprofessional. Am I the only one?
I think she should suck it up and react with results on court. Also, I think she shouldn't communicate via the media. She can call Haarhuis herself right? Or take the inititive herself to speak to him when he is in Melbourne.

Even though it's weird that they - apparently - didn't really have contact about her physical condition, I think it's a fairly logical decision of Paul Haarhuis. He has alternatives that have played more (especially Burger), and probably have trained more, so why would he take risks?

Re: Richel Hogenkamp

Yeah, nice.
I think we quickly need a new page on this thread BTW; I'm tired of seeing that list of Richel vs Wang's when I open this thread

Re: Richel Hogenkamp

Richel following up her title at 25k Clermond-Ferrand with two very good wins in WTA Linz Q!

She defeated Patricia Maria Tig (ranked 115) 64 67(6) 63 and Carina Witthoeft (ranked 87) 64 36 64. (The latter against whom she had a 1-5 H2H going into the match)

Final qualifying round will be really tough once again, either against Sara Sorribes Tormo (ranked 129) or Ekaterina Alexandrova (ranked 136).

7 match winning streak now

Re: Richel Hogenkamp

Great result! Especially winning against Dodin, who seemed to be in good form? (Didn't follow closely though, since I was on holiday)

And another Dutch winner!

Only Robin dropped the ball.

Hopefully a third Dutchwoman will be too much for Dodin.

MarkNL She beat Watson 62/75!

She played sooo well, especially up until 62 31, then Watson got 2 SP's at 45 which Richel saved and she pulles out the set
