Daniela Serves Up 10th Career title!

It all started in Gold Coast Australia, a young Slovakian
decided that she was ready for the big leagues and
that she would try and be the best on the newly debuted
OWTT tour. She lost early in a hard fought match, and
she struggled to win. Little The world know she would
be the world number one, and undeniable queen of the
tour seasons later. She currently has 10 titles and
counting. Who is she? She is Daniela Hantuchova.

She wouldnt reacch a semi-final until the Olympics.
Her first final came after a full season on the tour
at the pretegious tier one in Charleston. She had
made it through four top ten players and stun the
crowd, defeating the heavily favored Russian, Svetlana
Kuznetsova in the final 6-3 6-2. This was one
unexpected result. She managed to hold her nerve in
the first important match of her career. After her
first title she felt "like I've been transpoted for
a big dark shadow to the stage, I feel so happy"

7 weeks later, something even less expected and much
more magical for Daniela happened. "Every girls dream
is to win a Grand Slam" she stated. And that dream
came true, her favorite surface, grass saw it happen.
At the prestegious Wimbledon Grand Slam, unseeded
Hantuchova would fly through opponents, losing
not one set in the four final rounds of the Slam.
And defeating Dinara Safina quickly in the final.
This career defining win would make her rise to
ninth in the world, and have her seeded for the
first time in her short career.

Was it a fluke? Daniela proved it wasn't showing up
a week later in Stanford taking the title over
home crowd favorite Ashley Harkleroad in three
long sets, 2-6 7-5 6-1. This win would solidify
her standing in the tennis world. The new girl
in the top ten was here and ready to take others
down. "I proved myself, I'm proud, and most
importantly I'm enjoying what I do" She claimed
in her post win interview.

The season two title runs would not stop as
the North American Hard courts would treat her
very well. In Montreal she put another impressive
five match winning streak defeating young Michelle
Larcher de Brito in less than an hour 6-2 6-2.
Other caught notice of the Slovak, retired
former world number one at the time, Serena
Williams stated "She is doing evry thing right
and shes a good girl so I'm happy shes winning
and not the other[cough]hoes[cough]"
With this win she'd top the US Open Series.

Season two ended and the sophomore slump
began, In season three she failed to defend
any titles or win new ones dropping to 19
in the rankings. but season four was a bit
more sweet. winning title number five in the
"5th Grand Slam" that was the Sony Erricson Open
in Miami. She beat the world number one Molik
in a hard fought three set battle 6-0 0-6 7-5.
"I though my careerwas almost over, the BOOM.
I won this" Daniela explained. I'm happy again"

Though the titles ended in season four she regained
her top 10 rankingand finished as number 10
exactly. Now Season five began and who knew, of
the form that would come. It started well, her title
in Sydney. defeating Venus Williams 6-4 0-6 7-5, in
the sweltering heat of Australia. Daniela would
have an unsucessful Australian Open but felt the
begining of her season was still strong as "I
learned I can still do well and win titles"

After the Sydney win she'd reach five finals including
Roland Garros, where shou woud capture the one slot
after the shock retirement of Hungraian teen
Agnes Szavay. People felt she didn't deserve it
but she proved numerous people wrong winning
Eastbourne on the only sunny day of the long week.
"I love grass, I love winning so all in all
I had a pretty good week [laughs]" She would
crash out in the R16 of Wimbledon but would
continue her delicious season!

Daniela would have a solid time at number one, doing
well and never havinhg a severly bad week. She would
recapture the same title for the first time in her
career winning Montreal once again. She punished Li
Na in a routine 6-3 6-4 final, capitilizing on every
break point she had, not letting the Chinese woman
win more than two points on her serve. "I played my
game the best I could, and I love the crowd in Montreal
I was happy to please them once again."

To catch up to the OWTT record for most titles Daniela
would need number nine. she captured that title in Tokyo.
With horrible play in the begining of the first set
versus every player (except Clijsters) she fought
her way back winning four, three set matches. With
the final against recently crowned US Open
champion, Venus Williams she beat out the American
and kep herself in the lead of thier rivalry.
Winning 4 matches against her this season.'

She would win for a fifth time versus Venus, and
would surpass Serena's record two weeks later in
the city of Beijing with same exact scoreline.
Daniela still has a lot left for her including
the year end championships which she says is
her last goal of the season "This is my greatest
milestone,I have proven myself to everyone whos
doubted me. I thank everyone whos helped, the fans
and the head of OWTT, for pushong me, and making sure
I never though about quitting, like so many have done before"

Beijing Final

(1) Hantuchova def. (2) V.Williams
1-6 6-4 6-3
(Again!!)

Exactly the same result as the Tokyo final 2 weeks ago. Venus needs to change somethign - he cannot simply rely on someone taking Hantuchova out for her! Hantuchova becomes the first player to reach double-digits for titles as she wraps up her 10th trophy here in Beijing. She has compiled an OWTT best season as well, winning 5 titles and reaching 10 finals overall, and the season isn't done yet for Hantuchova!!
