Four Brits battling for the 3rd round. Important bragging rights. Should be fun.

Mr.Sparkle Hev/Jo into the second round of doubles 6-1, 7-6(9-7). Dabrowski and co were coming back towards end but Katson closed it out. Also Raith are doing better now, so could see an all Brit second round.

Heather is now down to 80 in the live rankings. She hasn't got much to defend until Indian Wells so hopefully a few good tournaments will see her climb back up.
The problem is when did Heather last have a few good tournments? Last year I recall good results at Indian Wells and Wimbledon and then nothing between, before (Hobart aside) or after. I'm doubting she will make the Olympics without a massive turn around.

Mr.Sparkle Even though I was at the AO I did not get to see this match. Kind of glad though, from the scores it was very up and down. I know Babos has improved recently but I feel Hev should have pulled off the win in a tight scoreline like this.

Hey Heather Fans, I was at their last match and gave a report in case you want to check it out.

Timea Babos - Heather Watson (from 6-2,0-3 to end)

I came right after the Goerges-Radwanska match finished and didn’t even watch the second set that intensely because I was so tired and hot. This match was played on my favorite court, court 9; which is like a mini grandstand which makes for an intimate little stadium. From what I saw in the second set, Heather was solid and Timea was not. The match was not nearly as packed as I thought it would be but for those who were there, it seemed everyone was for Heather. Timea played well to open the final set, serving big and hitting a couple winners, and also benefited from some Watson backhand errors. At 0-2, it was Heather’s turn to play well and Timea’s to play badly. It got back to 2-2 as it was then again Babos’s turn to play well. At 3-2 on Watson’s serve, Timea hit 4 consecutive winners and let out a huge roar which completely shut up the crowd. But the very next game, she made 4 UE errors and it was back on serve. At 3-4, Timea continued to apply pressure and Watson was struggling. On break point, Heather stopped playing on a ball that she thought was out, there was no call, and Babos hit an easy winner. She let out a huge scream, something like ,”GOD …”. Down 15-30 at 5-3, Babos hit two huge aces to get to match point and took it, to which Heather crushed the ball out of the court as hard as she could. This match kind of makes you think of how good Babos can be when she puts it all together...or maybe just how not that great Watson is when she plays a better player

...

Anyways as one of Timea's biggest supporters, I think it will come down to how consistent she can play and her form has been solid since last Summer, but it looks like Heather has started the year well. If Timea plays well which I think she will, I think Heather will struggle but if she plays really poorly and has a low 1st serve percentage, Heather will probably win if her own level is solid. We'll see what happens so good luck :P

Mr.Sparkle Hev should be fine with Babos but after that it is a very tough draw. Good luck though Hev. I am going to the Aussie Open this year so hope to see Heather play live!
