Re: General Aussie Tennis News

Random, but does anyone know what happened to Pamela Boyanov?

I thought she could have been quite a decent player but looks like has completely stopped playing. Hasn't played since May 2015 and is now unranked in the Australian Rankings. Did she pull an Azra?

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

3 of the girls nominated were playing in the main draw Australian Open and Fourlis won an ITF tournament. I'd say that's why they were the four chosen. Award is really for December -> November so no surprise they put all their weighting on start of the year at home. Just a shame the rest of year wasn't really notable or that we saw any progression. Injuries will have played a part there.

Birrell is a worthy winner, but lol at winning an award despite being inactive for most of the year.
It does not look good for the others nominees

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

If Lizette was born 13 days later she would have won this award

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

Anyway, I think Lizette will get a WC, but I feel like they might make her play the playoff first.

btw, the ones that were nominated were Fourlis, Hon, Birrell and Inglis. Tbh I would have swapped Aiava in with maybe Inglis, not sure why she was not included, she's had a much better year than Maddy and is actually ranked higher than all of them. I think Birrell is a suitable choice, she did really well in the two months she did actually play. Fourlis didn't do much besides winning that 25k and qualifying for a 50k. Maddy did absolutely nothing all year and Hon only won a 15k.

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

Yes she is not a junior anymore because she is born in 1997, meaning she cannot play any junior tournaments at all. Hon, Birrell and Inglis were all born in 1998 and can still play junior tournaments up until 2017 starts. This is nothing to do with TA.

Or is Cabrera not "junior" anymore

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

Makes me think Cabrera isn't a TA fave and probably isn't recognised for what she has done over the backend of the year....

Don't see a discretionary WC likely?

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

Does Sydney even have the amount of courts the AO would take?

Re: General Aussie Tennis News

Melbourne Park keep revamping. They obviously don't want AO to move to Sydney

Looks like they're getting rid of those lone match/practice courts that are near Hisense and putting some sort of building there. They're also building a new sunken court in between Hisense and RLA and a new shaded area near RLA.

Yes 2014 was Casey's great year and considering she had to twice return from season long injuries, probably should've got the nod over Nick.
Sam vs Lleyton was in 2013 and probably should've went Sam's way, but they clearly wanted the trophy to go to Lleyton and prevent Sam's three-peat (or was it four-peat?).
