Rankings - Quitting matches

When I look at tournament results I see so many of the following below its getting ridiculous:

Wd(emerg)
Wd(inj)
Wd(ill)

Ret(inj)
Ret(ill)

Wo(emerg)
Wo(inj)
Wo(ill)

Def(cond)
Def(ns)

1. Are there any strategic benefits ranking wise of quitting matches by any of the following above.

2. Is their a difference between "walk over emergency" and "default no show." These "emergency" classifications whether withdraws or walk overs seem to be very convenient.
